LAST EDITED ON Nov-10-12 AT 10:01PM (MST)[p] Here is a few pics of the buck I shot in colorado 2nd season. We hiked about 3 miles to get to our glassing spot before light. As it started getting light we spotted this buck laying in his bed about a 1000 yards straight across the canyon. We watched this buck for a few minutes and I could tell he was narrow but very tall with a 2 inch kicker off his right side. This was the best buck we had seen in 5 days of hunting, so I decided I would try to go after him. I knew I had to make my move fast because the buck was bedded about fifty yards from the dark timber and I just knew thats where he would go when he got on his feet. I quickly made my way down the ridge and got 250 yards directly below him. My plan worked perfectly, but when I got below him I realized the buck was bedded on a little bench and all I could see was the tops of his antlers. I waited for about fifteen minutes, "seemed like an hour" for him to get up. When he got up there was limbs and grass in the way, so I didn't feel comfortable with the shot, so I had to wait for him to make a move. He started heading toward the dark timber and he went out of sight, due to the bench he was on. He popped out higher up the ridge. I ranged him at 293 yards shooting almost straight uphill. I settled on him and touched it off! I watched the buck roll twenty yards down the hill and rolled into a big log that stopped him from rolling alot farther. As I walked up to him I could tell he was alot heavier than i thought, "I was stoked".
This buck is my biggest to date. He is a 5x5 with 17 4/8 g2's and grosses 164 5/8. This was a hunt of a lifetime for me. I just enjoyed every part of the hunt. Thanks to all that helped me out and thanks Colorado, what an awesome place to hunt.
