Pauns?

I am new to this MM, just thought I would ask about how the pauns is doing when it is dealing with the rifle hunt? I drew this tag when I was 17 (1993) and had a 75 year old grandpa taking me on the north end of the unit and the migration had already happened. I got a two point as my first deer behind rubys inn. After learning about what had happened I always wanted to go back and pursue what dreams are made of. I have 13 points going into 2013 and might be able to draw it. Just wondering how this hunt has been for you out there that have hunted it. Is it worth it or should some try someplace else? Thoughts?

Most fun hunt I have been on for deer. You will love it. Comebrifle hunt, you want to hit the middle half and south. It is SOOOOO beautiful down there. I have 8 points and dreaming of my credit card hit, tag in my hand, and my family and friends camping down there.

Apple man, did you get a good one? Any monsters that you saw that were killed?

is the pauns or henrys better?i have been applying for henry's last 2 years.with all in fo it seems henry's are better. please give your thoughts i have 15 points.i might draw before i'm dead i hope.which would you apply with that many points?

I always hear about how great the Henry's are. With 13 points there not a very good chance for me to get it. I would like to hunt in my lifetime and start putting in for some else. That's what I was wondering how everyone did at the pauns. I here mixed reviews from some. I heard from Ryan hatch that it is not good as it use to be. But in Ryan's video breaking 300 he had a pauns tag and turned it back in. I asked him what he was going for and he said Henry's. I talked to a guy who has done some guiding on the pauns and he said screw the Henry's I seen some dandys on the pauns. If you got 15 points I would stay with the Henry's.

With 13 resident points I think your best option is the Paunsaugunt, with point creep you still have atleast a decade to be guaranteed the Henrys tag. This years rifle hunt on the pauns was tougher than most years but was still a good hunt. During the last 5 years the pauns has started to make a come back on producing 200"+ bucks. They cut tag numbers a few years ago, started a management hunt, and have done ALOT of habitat projects and in my opinion it is starting to payoff.

Ya Milk Lips I did end up shooting a pretty buck on the last day which u can see in the post by 6x7. Only saw one buck better. A big straight four. Good luck! in the draw

I drew this tag 16 years ago - earlier hunt in October which made it difficult as the deer did not migrate. Looking for someone who has hunted this unit this year with the later rifle tag. (Trying to determine if I should put in for this hunt or wait for the Henry's. (13 points).
Any information would be appreciated. Also, any information on which area you hunted would be appreciated. (Above the split in Johnson canyon or below the split).

Thanks

Like many have said the pauns isnt really what it used to be and you have a better shot at a larger deer on the henrys. but if you hunt hard just like any other hunt you can find good bucks on the pauns. with 13 resident points you have a dang good chance at getting the tag. my dad had this tag this year and we had 2 bucks over 190 found that we hunted and on the second day the smaller 5x4 got shot he went 193 we hunted for 5 more days trying to turn up the larger buck but it didnt happen so my dad went to his backup buck it was a 30 inch 3x5 he didnt care about score he just wanted something over 30 wide. its a fun hunt and when you can find resident deer like we did it makes it that much better.

I hunted the rifle hunt and I would do that hunt again in a second. The Henry's may be better, but the Paunsy is pretty darn good too.

Just take a look at some of the bucks to come off there the last couple years. I would do it.
