All these deer pictures on single day on the Paunsaugunt Unit southern Utah, from a single location. We back the pickup into under a juniper tree about 60 yards from the water hole and a new batch of deer would come into the pond every 10 to 15 minutes. Sometimes they'd all leave but with in a few minutes the area would be teeming with a new group. It is great sport to watch them interact and do what they do.
My camera was clicking but I would grunt or burp if they didn't look right at me, I wanted to try for at least one facing pic so we could get a good look at their width.
Bess, the Friends of the Paunsaugunt folks will keep and eye on these bucks for us. When their big dollars involved, there's lots of help. ;-)
We never saw any over the top bucks, but we had a great time watching these. What better thing can you do than watch our future hunting stock grow-up? Kind of like a cowboy out riding through his cows and admiring a job well done.
Made a loop from Meadow to Kanosh this morning, back against the Pahvant unit, very few deer were visitable at day light. After 5 hours of glassing we did find 5 bucks, all yearlings but one and spread out over 15 miles. The older buck was good looking heavy beamed 180" +/- with a small cheater. He was too far out to get photo and he was headed for the pinions on a fast trot.
You all have a warm and healthy Christmas, hug your wife and kiss your kids. We live at a great time, in a great place. How fortunate we are.
