Which would you take?

I just added NEW photos to our Photo Tours section of the site. A bunch of giant bucks by Peter Eades and big bulls by Edward Snow. Take a look. Pretty cool.

Which One?

Let me set the scene.........it's the 3rd day of a 7 day highcountry hunt in Colorado. The area is known to produce some whoppers, but the first two days of your hunt, you saw only lots of other hunters and a handful of smaller bucks. You made only one scouting trip during the summer and it sucked as few bucks were found. No other scouting cause your time off work is limited.
So, day three of the hunt you got up early and hiked for 2 hours before light to reach a high ridge that looked promising from a far ridge 3 miles away.
As it becomes light, you spot these two bucks below feeding along the edge of some thick pines just 250 yards below you. You can easily make the shot.
You know other hunters are likely going to be in the area. Time is running short.

Do you shoot? Or pass?
If shooting, which one you aiming for?

I love the typical frame on buck #1. Though i might feel like there are bigger, maybe even the buck of a lifetime that i always wanted out there someplace close by, i don't think i'd give it much of a second thought as he is just too good, too nice a buck to pass on.

Booom-kaa-plop, Big buck #1 down Baby!! Yahooo!!

Good thread Founder, Thanks!!

I know 2 will probably outscore #1, but I like his look better. #1 down, keep scouting the rest of the time, hope to draw the tag again in the future.

#2...although his cape is ugly. He looks like one of those crappy mounts from the 70's standing there......I love in-lines!!!

Number 2, but I would prolly miss either one

I'll tell you who it was . . . it was that D@MN Sasquatch!

The closest one!!

Government doesn't fix anything and has spent trillions proving it!!!
Let's face it...After Monday and Tuesday, even the calender says WTF!

Prolly number 2 but would be tickled pink with either one !!

I am afraid that even though I burned my 8 Colorado points on this hunt buck #1 is toast. I like the in line, but I like them a little trashy.

Great post Brian!

I'm with Yellum.... hands down # 1 any day of the hunt.... palmated g3 with the double kicker on the left.... a couple inch kicker on the right, with what looks to be a rather large inline coming off the G2.... not to boot a nice typical frame on a mature buck...

I'd probably shoot #2, but if it happened REAL SLOW, I might catch my wits and pass. Both bucks would be studs in another year.

It would be a definite tough choice but buck #2 would be the one that I would choose. I love its mass and the character on both sides. The double forks, the hooked out side and even a little bit of a broken tip on the main beam of the one side. I would be proud to display that buck in my home. Tough choice though. Especially if I had all 7 days to hunt. I think that it would still be over if I had time to think about it as well.

Wow. Wouldn't hesitate on either one. Whichever gave me the best opportunity first would be my choice. No questions asked. Love the massive eye guards on both. Those are two trophies in my eyes

Founder, i noticed from the self made video of your hunts that you like to verbally score the bucks that you come across. What is your take on these two guys? How good do you think they are and IYO, what they might score?

Best case scenario, these bucks were taken and you know exactly how big their frames are and what they do score. Tx,

They're both pretty equal in my book. Either one really. No matter which one I took, I would later get buyers remorse, wishing I had the other one. Human nature I guess.:)

As a practicle matter, I would look for the one with the smallest body. At 3 miles from camp, you have to think of these things at my age.

#2 trips my trigger. Given the scenario and the fact that either buck is far larger than any I have taken, the second one would be taking a dirt nap.

That would be a nice problem to have. Like have to choose between a supermodel. Won't ever happen for 99.9% of the hunting population.

I like #2, but if there was a better shot opportunity on #1 I wouldn't let either one of them walk.

HOOK 'EM!

The first one for its little bit of trash. It also has the nicer looking cape.

sageadvice - I suck at scoring usually. Sometimes I'm good. Big bodied bucks throw me way off.

My take on these 2 bucks is that both are 194-198ish

I'd take #2 cause he's a bit heavier it appears and I think he could surprise me and be a bit better than I think. Long eyeguards, long beams, and the mass. I like the look of #2 better.
Oh, and he's looks like he'd taste better.....ha ha

I would like it better if only one was in the hypothetical, because I'd shoot either one on opening day, let alone day 3 under the circumstances you set up. To walk away from a hunt with one crappy scouting trip with one of those bucks? That's gold.

However, you said they both were there. That is a tough call as there are characteristics I like in both. But I'd probably go #2.

Thanks! After last years contest, i found out that i suck at scoring off pic's to, LOL. My thought's on #1 were a 182-185ish frame plus the extras making him somewhere the low 190's. I never could get an objective opinion on the #2 buck as i kept wanting to go back and look at #1.

I would be happy to take both of them with my camera. Nice photos!! Who took them? They should get some credit as they are great bucks and great photos!

Happy New Year to you Brian and to all here on MM. Best wishes for a great 2013!! Peace and Happiness to all. BB

I'd shoot-um both if they were far enough from a road.......................SIKE #1 is a stud

If I saw them both at the same time #1 would hit the dirt first chance for a clean shot. I would shoot either on the 1rst day or last day of a hunt. Both bigger than any mulie I have had a chance at. At my age I might never draw another tag in a good area.

The first one is way better looking in the cape and face (check out that awesome scar..!!) I'd shoot him all day standin next to the other one...

I think #2 is the bigger buck, but I like the looks of #1 just a little bit better. I would shoot the first one that gave me a good shot. If they both were standing broadside, I guess I would shoot #1.

#1 trips my trigger.
