I posted this on the Sheep/Antelope page also but since I'm asking about Oregon I thought I'd try here also.
Anyway, after 11 years of trying to draw I was lucky this year to get a tag - I guess. I've got the maps down for the unit and went over to the unit this last weekend for my fist scouting trip. Well it wasn't that great. In about 60 miles of bad gravel roads and looking into everyhting we could we only saw 6 antelope - all does.
So my question is - do you start to see more antelope - bucks particular later as the season gets closer? Also, the unit seems to have a lot of tall sage - how the heck do you hunt in that stuff - or do you just try and hunt the grass/lower sage? Sorry for the dumb questions but I'm trying to make the most of my tag since it will be awhile before I draw again, already been told that because its so dry this year the antelope may have moved out of the unit in search of water!!! Anyway, any advise is appreciated.
Thanks

S. Wagontire is a so-so unit and you really need to know where to start before being successful. My suggestion would be to call the bio for that area and talk to him. His name is FOZZ. He is very busy and quite hard to get ahold of, but give it a try.

There are a couple of places that you will want to look and I am quite confident Fozz will tell you where they are.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the info - I have been trying to call the bio with no luck so far but its early so will keep trying. I hate to pester the guy but I hate to spend 11 years getting a tag and then waste it.

The bio is one of the hardest working bios I have ever met. He is pulled to all corners of the state with one project or another. He also has kids that are highly active in sports, FFA, etc and that keeps him busy as well.

You have plenty of time, just be patient. Call about once a week until you catch him.
