Our local shop just finished this one, the buck and story will be in Muley Crazy coming up. I think they knocked it out of the park with this one!

That's waaay cool. What happened to the cats face?

Sit tall in the saddle, hold your head up high, keep your eyes fixed to where the trail meets the sky...

cool mount, but the bucks face needed to be showing signs of distress..there shoulda been white showing in his eye on that turn of the neck like that... even mouth slightly open. the facial expressions reminds me of just a plain ole shoulder mounted buck

now that moose mount is awesome

That is an incredible buck. Like has been said it doesn't look too distressed. I think the major problem here is the tiny cat. Not only is the hair slipped making it look bad, but it's a dink. Look at the spots.... To me this is a great buck that deserved a better mount and a cat that should still be out on the hill growing up.

Have to say I agree 100%. Cat has a crazy look in his eyes, slipped fur, spots, and the buck looks like he's out for a stroll in the park. Cool concept, not so great of execution.

That moose mount is hands down the best I've ever seen.

As mentioned before, not a fan of the mule deer and lion mount because of the expressionless face on the buck.

The cat is too small for sure, a cat that big would get his ass kicked by a healthy buck of that size. I have to agree on the expression (or lack of) on the bucks face.

Since apparently all of you have seen what a deers face looks like at the exact moment it is attacked you should draw an illustration or show a photo that way the rest of us know. I think it pretty cool and would put it in my house any day. Guess most of the rest wouldn't.

Seriously! It's a kick ass mount! Anyone that can out do it, lets see it. Not only is the execution incredible, the fact that the taxi was able to save the cat from complete slippage is amazing. Most likely the the cat was teetering on the edge of going in the trash before the taxidermist was able to keep the hair slippage to a localized area. Most, if not all damage to the cape happens long before it is even brought to the taxidermist. Major props goes out to the person who crafted this work of art. Anyone that can turn Styrofoam and leather into a lifelike animal is nothing short of a genius. Great work n an incredible mount!

I'm no taxi, but we have a really top notch cat guy here in Idaho and when I first met him he told me that cat's eyelids basically never leave the entire pupil exposed, and correct mounts typically will have the eyelid through the middle of the pupil.

Most of the bug eyed cat mounts have the eyelids wrong and so does this one.

Here's a couple photos of live lions that my buddy Shane N. took and sent to me. For educational purposes it's good to look at live photos to get a true view of how critters look in real life.

I bet as a taxidermist its got to be tough to get all these different animals expressions right. Recently I have been doing quite a bit of wildlife photography and I am amazed at the number of taxidermists who contact me on pronghorns, mule deer, badgers, etc. wanting good reference photos.

Anyway just wanted to share Shane's photos for those following this thread to see and to learn. None of us can ever learn enough about any subject, that is for sure.

Have a great day. BB
