This is a buck I found last year in September, he vanished before I could put a bullet in him. I am curious what you guys think.... Would you spend a lot of time on him this coming year? Would you put the hammer down if had the chance? Thoughts on score, age, etc. Note: this is a general area.

Exceptional buck, even for some LE units. No brainer on the general.

Theres logic, and theres women. They don't go together.

I don't know too many guys that would pass him up. He's a good solid buck in my book. I wouldn't think twice....but I've been known to shoot a PISSCUTTER or two in my day. :)

In a general unit....no brainer.

I would guess in those pictures he is in the 170's gross. Mainfraim around 155-160"

Hopefully he put on some more length and mass and will be in the 180's

He's a shooter, one that i'd spend a goodly amount of time looking for this next season if i were you. To me, he looks like he'd gross in the high 170's, pushing 180, about 29" cheater to cheater.

Not looking past his prime, I think he can't help but be a even more impressive buck this coming season, especially if his fronts fill out better and he picks up a bit more of that nice mass he already has going like i think he might.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-07-13 AT 02:39PM (MST)[p]I would like to hear what the experts say on age on this guy. I would guess he was 4.5 or 5.5, but tough to tell until he fills out prior to the rut. If he is 4.5, he should get a decent bit bigger next year and will be a no-brainer pull the trigger buck for most.

I think he will go 170 on the main frame and hit close to 180 gross myself with those 3 extras.

I have spent a lot of time daydreaming about this buck!! He is definitely on the top of my list for this year and I think he is young and will likely put on more inches too. I personally think his main frame is right at 170. He has at least 3 cheaters per side(one on each G-2 and and one inline on his left g-3 that aren't very visible in the pictures). I'm quite confident that he has a minimum of 20 inches in extras putting him near 190 gross. I'm already getting in shape for the brutal country he calls home.

Sounds like most of us are on the same page as you with this buck but you may have mentioned the above BEFORE asking for, " Thoughts on score, age, etc."

At casual glance, i only can see about 10-11" of extras and tough to judge/score what a guy can't see.

If I saw him in the general area I hunt, I would shoot him without a second thought.

When I get something in my head like score, width or a particular size of a buck I sometimes like to ask you guys so I can either reconsider my thinking or confirm it. I gotta admit you guys are helping me be more realistic on this buck! Regardless, I hope I can find him again so maybe we can be discussing whether he makes 200 or not :)

LAST EDITED ON Mar-07-13 AT 07:45PM (MST)[p]He looks young so if you find him again I would bet he will be bigger! Maybe he looks bigger in person as I see high 170s.

IMO he's a young buck with a ton of potential. I'd put that frame in the 160's but his extras definately add the character. I think he's one of those bucks that could really blossom given some age.

Pictures say low 170"s. I would be tickled s less on my general unit. Some of these bucks don"t gain much after they hit 170. I hope he is one that continues to grow. Good luck! Hope he makes it.

With another year under him that buck should be exceptional. 2 years and he'd be insane with those genes.

Looks like 3 yr old.Next season he could be a real hammer.I would definitely be looking for that buck next season.Score doesn't matter. He is a character buck!

I see 165 on his mainframe...on the high side. His G-4's are too weak to get him in the 170's. Definitely a shooter in general zone and wspecially with all of those cheaters!...but take away all of those cheaters and he might be a "thinker"? And not many 170 bucks should be "thinkers"!
Looks to be young enough to have at least another couple of years of growing.
I would definitely shoot him, but I think a few guys are too high on that mainframe guess. IMHO.

I'd be glad for that buck. I agree with others, my impression is that he is fairly young. 3-4 yr old maybe.

Where is everybody coming up with these big numbers. I aint no expert on scoring by any means and I am sure I am over looking something. Don't get me wrong great buck and a definate shooter but I can't muster up much more than 170. Pretty crabby on the front and not much width to him. IDK

If he made it thur all the hunts and winter-----

He is going to be one hell of a buck come this fall.

I don't see more than the low 170's gross with extras... with basically no G4 on the right and a small on the left, with decent G2/G3's.... However with that said, yes I would shoot him this year.
Good luck getting him.

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

I like this kind of thread, no arguments here but more of a discussion. My reasoning that he is pushing 180 gross....

With those long heavy points, looks to me to have 180" backs and if you added 5-6" to each of his G-4's, his mainframe probably would be 180". So I give his main frame 168", plus the 11" of extra's that i can see = 179 gross.

Now, Lieca says that he knows this buck has 20" of extras when including the ones that can't be seen in the pics. That makes him even better and starting to push 190". I agree that he looks too young and not a big enough frame to be that high but his overall frame could be bigger than it looks in those pic's. Been fooled more than once there so i'll give the guy behind the camera who actually saw him on the mountain the benefit of doubt!! :)

I like them too, I am kinda cheating though. Not intending to hi-jack the thread... Need to post my pic just to show why I came up with the score I did...
I shot a similar buck a couple years ago. He gross's 197" He has deep forks up front, back forks are just slightly better and from "what we can see" in the pics above there is a few more extra inches on mine. Similar main beams and mass though. His has 2" of eye guards too... I keep looking and don't see it above 175" but everything changes once they are on the ground.

Right around 170 on the frame. 15" of extras. The back forks are nice, the front forks not so much if you only talking score.

Nice buck and definitely a shooter in most places. good luck.

Mtnman, heck of a buck!!! Did you have him scored without any deductions? Looks easy 200+ to me.

To those that don't know, you score a non-typ, one side, main frame only, against the other and then subtract the differences between sides. Then you add in all the abnormal points and inside spread credit. Really though, to get a total gross score on all the bone and not scoring for the "book" a guy can just total up all the points with no deductions.

Thanks Joey,

170 net typical, 178 gross typical, 197 gross non-typical. Again, don't want to take away from original poster's pic, just trying to use mine as an example why I don't think he'd break 175 since they are similar in shape and rough size.
He might go higher, like I said it all changes when they are on the ground...
I definately would not pass him this year, he should be tremendous this year! I doubt I would have passed him last year on any unit except a couple throughout the west...

I agree with the other comments here, 170-180 young buck with great potential general season shoot, worry about score later.

Sounds like you found him scouting. If he was the biggest I saw, he'd be the one. If I saw bigger, I'd be looking for them. I'd say something less than 170.

No question I would try and put him down, like the kickers.

Great looking buck and thanks for sharing.
I would guess 165" gross typical. I can only see 11" of cheaters in the pictures. That would put him at 176 gross nontypical. Inches can add up fast on non-typical points so there could easily be 9" of trash I just don't see in the pictures.

I also think he is a younger buck. I would guess 4 1/2 years old but I wouldn't be surprised if he was really 3 1/2 or 6 1/2.
I would shoot him without much hesitation in a general unit.
He may end up growing a similar sized rack this year but could also add 20" or 30" to his gross score. I hope you find him this fall.

Great buck. No hesitation unless I was on Antelope Island or the Henry's or if I had seen 3 or 4 other 200 inchers in the area.

HOOK 'EM!

Looks young to me as well. You might be glad he dissapeared, i bet he's even better this year. Good luck, i hope you get a crack at him:)

STUD buck,Mntman.Love that heavy frame.I have one very similar.

Leicabucks-Be sure to let us know what he scores next season.

With those stickers and dark, heavy horns I'd shoot him 3 minutes into my LE Book Cliffs Hunt... Even with kinda crabby fronts, he's gotta have 12" of extras which I think would put him over 180"
