Has anyone in here ever drew the heaston east cwmu? Whats the hunt like? experience they had on the hunt, how is the operator? etc....

I put in for it this year and that's becuase a buddy recommended it to me. He hunted it with his daughter two years ago. He said it was great. They typically wait until after the Antlered hunts are over then they will bring you in on a Ranger. Basically drive you around until you find some elk took about 5 min then put a stalk on them. They both shot cows out of the same herd then they drove to them loaded them up in the ranger after gutting and drove them back to the truck and loaded them up. Said he got to see some nice deer and elk and fill the freezer with a pretty easy hunt. If you want to work hard for a cow elk then this prob isn't for you.

That's on working Kennecott property and if you are escorted by Terry, you will be met at the local McDonalds (along with several other public hunters so don't be late) and will be escorted from there to the gate to your hunting spot and you will be given from two to four hours to get your animal down, gutted and next to the road. If, on the other hand, you get one of his "helpers", you will have a MUCH better experience. I've done both, (actually, two of my kids had the tags and I accompanied them) and the difference was amazing.

Terry has a contract with Kennecott, but makes his money from the private paying customers and barely tolerates the public hunters. His "helpers" are only paid tips. Needless to say, one of our escorts got a generous tip, the other one got nothing. Guess which was which!

Been trying for this cwmu for the past 3 or 4 years now, i will have 10 points now for next years draws. I have heard the main operator is a jerk from a few people now since i posted this the other day. I would want to hunt when i want and where i wanted without someone telling me where to shoot or what to shoot i understand there are rules and boundries for the unit. Am i better trying for a different cwmu or limited entry deer hunt??? Only reason i wanted to try this unit was because its 10 min from home, and i know there are 180+ bucks all over that mountain. OPINIONS PLEASE........

If you want to hunt big bucks when and WHERE without someone telling you, then buy a private tag from them ($5,000 I've been told.) and hope you get someone other than Terry or look elswhere.
