High Country Utah Archery Buck

Here are pictures of the Utah general season archery buck that my good friend Matt Bateman took yesterday afternoon in the high country. We spotted this buck from nearly 2000 yards away and watched him bed on a near vertical cliff. For the next four hours I moved into position below the buck while Matt climbed cliffs and rocks to circle behind and above the buck and get in position in what we fealt was his most likely escape route. Then the rain and lightning set in. It turned into quite a rodeo for a while!!

Then we crossed our fingers and made our play. I bumped the buck from below and then watched as the buck left his bed and made his way directly up the chute where Matt was waiting in position ontop of the rocky spine. Matt hammered his 30 yard shot home and the buck began his head-over-heel tumble 400 yards down the cliff face!

The 4x5 buck is 26" wide and scores 180.

Kudos to my pal Matt for working so hard for this buck and for making your shot count when the chips were down.
Way proud of you bro!! Glad I was there with you!

Hope you guys enjoy the pics.

No way to tease a guy about his hat when he's holding a buck like that. : )

Nice job on a stud deer. Thanks for sharing.

Nice!!!!! I thought everyone from Utah said there isn't any big bucks left. Sure has been a lot of pigs taken

Love hunting rimrock type country. That's a fine Buck.
