Gearing up for my NM 2B Mule Deer hunt. Guide?

Just got back (to Dallas) from northern New Mexico a week ago Sunday from my elk hunt and now I'm planning my mule deer hunt to 2B. I drew the first rifle hunt tag (Oct 19th-23rd). I've never hunted this unit and have done a really poor job on planning/deciding what places to hunt in this unit as it really took a backseat to all my elk hunting plans. Has any of the TBH brethren hunted out here in 2B before?

I know that this unit doesn't really peak until there is some snowfall - later in the season, so more than likely I'll be after a resident buck.

If you know about this unit and have some tips/pointers, please PM me.
Wouldn't even be opposed to paying a guide to take/show me where to go - if you know of guide in this area.

Thanks

I had a similar situation when I drew a tag in 2B. I sent you a PM with what I know. Good luck on your hunt.

Shoot the first 150 you see. I hunted the late hunt. I imagine the higher you get the better when its early but that's just a guess. I know from talking to GW the resident deer are small. Goodluck, Mike

Take more gas then you think you will need, A spare tire or two.
Chains for the mud not snow.
Hunt behind the lock gates roads there a good deal of them. Talk to the oil field hands and they just might throw a bone, THEY like BEER LOL.
That early hunt means they can be anywhere, I would start south and work north, I like hunting the border of the Jircarilla so I would hunt the east side of the unit.
Good luck.

Call me and we'll get you going on some good spots. We have private land right in the sweet spot of 2b plus lots of experience unit-wide.

I'll be at 575-687-3158 until October 16
I'll be on my cell 575-621-6158 after that

I don't have any hunters on that hunt but will be up at the ranch setting up my camps for the late hunt. Be happy to work with you on your hunt. You are facing the "Early" challenge and the guy was right about coming prepared for nasty nasty roads.

Stay in touch and I'll be back to Blanco on Thursday or Friday depending on when we get our camp out of here in 34.

Bring a six pack of Dos Equis (lager) and we'll look over the maps

Its already started snowing so that's great news for you. They'll be pouring off that mountain quick down into 2b
