RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

I went to the Sportsmans Warehouse today for the first time here in Phoenix, and I'll have to say it's just what we needed here. Not to say that some of the smaller local shops aren't any good. They have got what your looking for when it comes to huntig and fishing. they're still a few things to come in yet but they should be stocked up by Friday from what the Archery man said. They've gto from PSE to Bowtech in their Archery Dept., and from Remington on down to H&K in the firearms Dept. Really exciting stuff for me and for anyone that lives here in Phoenix!

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

yeah the one in Loveland CO is good also, IF you know what you need and find it and get out. I have been frustrated to no end a couple times, their costumer service blows. i have been looking for a 7mm rem adl, went there they don't stock it. not one person would look it up to order or price, not even the mang. kinda puts a bad taste in my mouth. BUT like i said if you know what you need they got it, we have needed a decent outdoor seller for awhile.

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

Sportsman's Warehouse has some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced in a retail store. I avoid the place like the plague if at all possible. You have a bunch of employees standing around with their hands in their pockets acting like they are doing you a favor by answering your question.

I have gone in more than once with the intention of dropping a lot of money on guns or optics and walked out in disgust because I couldn't get anyone to even acknowledge my presence. My only experience has been in the Midvale, UT store--maybe it is different elsewhere. I hope Cabela's comes to Utah and puts Sportman's Warehouse out of business.

It's too bad--the store could be so great if their employees gave a damn.

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

Although it is great to have big warehouses like this, I prefer to do my purchasing in the smaller shops. Reason? Customer Service. There are a couple of places that I will always purchase from because of the friendliness of the staff, and the help they give. You can really get to know the owner and staff on a personal level. I love to go into a place, shoot the bull, and walk out with just a moderate purchase. I will say one thing, I hate going into gun stores and having the sales person respond to a question with "Uhmmm, I'm not sure, let me ask someone else". What? And you expect me to drop $600+ down here in this store when your staff can't answer basic questions on your most important product?

I hope that the Warehouse does well to excite the younger crowd and educate new hunters, but I would hate to see the good 'smaller' stores suffer. - just my opinion.

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

WHEN THERE WAS JUST ONE OF THEIR STORES HERE IN THIS STATE IT WAS A TOP NOTCH STORE!!!

THE PRICES WERE IN LINE!!!

THEY SRART BUILDING SEVERAL OTHER STORES AND THE PRICES GO UP,SOME PUNK A$$ KID TRIES TO ANSWER ONE OF YOUR QUESTIONS,HIS REPLY,AH,JUST A MINUTE,LET ME GO ASK SOMEBODY ELSE,HELL YA I GOT PI$$ED!!!

I LIKED SPORTSMANS WAREHOUSE WHEN IT WAS ONE WAREHOUSE!!!

THEY MIGHT AS WELL HIRE SOME OF THEM 'HOOTERS' GIRLS,AT LEAST I WOULDN'T GET AS MAD WITH A DUMB ANSWER!!!

THE ONLY bobcat THINKING IS BIGGER BETTER???

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

They are building one here in Twin Falls Idaho and suppose to be done by the end of Sept. I just go in to look at there mounts anyways. But it will be nice as I would like to see them give this other sporting goods store a run for there money as there prices are way to high. I will travel out of town before I bought any guns or anything from that store.

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

Jerry, you talking about Blue Lakes Sporting Goods? Don't they have a big buck contest every year? I used to go into Rams there in Jerome when they where open. I just noticed that they had closed this last time I was there. Too bad, I liked the guy that ran the store. Later, Orlin

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

I think we all need to remember that they don't hire "outdoor-sportspersons" to staff these places. it is like going to home depot and asking one of the teen agers what wood to buy for decking. They aren't there for that reason. I bet that these people are working there only cause they work for cheap wages...go into a clothing store, say Old Navy, ask the help if they can recommend a shirt that will stay stain free and last through 100 washes and they'll freak out on ya...they aren't there cause they know anything.
Just my opinion...

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

I was thinking about retiring early and working for one of them sporting goods stores. If I get my pension I wouldn't need much salary. Do you think they'd let a guy take 3 months vacation during the fall?

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

I'm glad that the customer service issue came up it definetly lacks at sportsman warehouse. I remember years ago I talked to who is now a big manager and asked him about a pair of shoes I bought that were defective, he walked away from me??? Hope someone from there reads these posts.

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

I just purchased a rifle from them today (Riverdale Location). Was not impressed at all with one of the salesmen there. I don't really appreciate salesmen that act like they are doing me a favor by selling me a gun.

However, I have had some good experiences there with optics and flyfishing. I just think they need to be taught some customer service skills.

I believe the next time I buy a gun, I am going to go with the one man shop (Neals Gun Shop in Smithfield)

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

Yes Orlin I am talking about Blue lakes and I like Sportman's. I go to the one in Boise all the time as I will not buy anything from Blue lakes again. Yes they have a big buck contest in there. they pissed me off over that also. They have a archery and rifle contest. This last year they threw both together after having only 5 people with bucks for archery. Some yrs you will get alot and some yrs you wont. But oh well on this part. Just dont like the people in there as i have tried working with 4 different people in there. And all tried to BS me. 1 guy in there helped me out but he doesn't work there anymore because he didnt like the way they did thing's with customers so he quit.
as for Ram's Lonnie works up at Simerly's in Wendall.
If I get someone that is stupid or doesn't know the answer I will go to the next person till i can relate to them. Thats why they have more people working in them store's. I find somone that will answer what I want.

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

I was in Phoenix, AZ over the Labor Day weekend and had a chance to get by the new store. I was impressed with the layout and they sure were stocked to the gills, no doubt as they,ve only been open about a week. The one item I went to the store to purchase they were out of though! Salesman explained they had sold out of the model of the item I was looking for but would have additional units in later in the week. They did give me directions to two other shops in the area that might have what I was looking for. I thought that was decent service for sure.
They have the big elk that was taken on the San Carlos I.R. a few years back mounted on the facia overlooking the checkout stands. Good Lord, it is huge! Lots of neat mounts, especially a pair of Ibex rams staging to crack heads.
One other thing they ( and every other store in N. Phoenix) was out of were the Dove Hunting Stamps. With the dove opener being today, I imagine quite a few last minute types were sent on a search for the required stamp.

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

I went to the Phoenix store on Saturday and really liked the store. I run into customer service problems at the smaller stores as well as the big ones. I like to try and patronize small stores but want to give the big ones a chance. Just like everyone else, I have nightmare stories of trying to buy something and the employee's just dont have a clue. I plan on going to the Warehouse quite a bit just because of the volume of products they have and all the employees seemed helpful...... Allen Taylor......

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

My experiences with them have been horrible, not only from customer service but from selection. I hate going into the store here in SLC, it just pisses me off. Unfortunately I had to do so today, and guess what? I got ignored AGAIN. Then when I asked a question about why they don't carry a certain item, I got the 'who cares' shrug, then the 'salesperson' walked away from me.

And they wonder why I buy from Cabela's? Because they can answer any question I have, because they actually carry not only small men's sizes, but women's sizes other than XL. If something isn't right, I send it back and it's made right, every time!

Guess I'll get off here and place my order, because getting things local is not worth saving the shipping costs...

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

Ive had problems with the Warehouse when it comes to customer service as well. We had dropped off about 150 fliers for the Utah bowhunter Jamboree at the midvale location and asked them to place them on the counter by the archery equipment they did for awile and I was excited to see that all the fliers where gone when we went back in..But in reality they had taken them and sat them under the counter out of site and we asked why they simply replied if somebody asks then we will give them one... I told the guy I guess you dont appericate all the money that archers bring into your department do you and without sportsman/women you wouldnt even have a job. He placed all the fliers back on the counter.

I often slip and call it sportmans whorehouse! LOL

SOMETIMES IT MAKES YOU WONDER HOW AND WHAT THEIR DOING TO HOLD THE JOB!!!

THE ONLY bobcat WONDERING WHAT THE NEXT GENERATION OF I DON'T KNOW,I DON'T CARE,I DON'T WANT TO LEARN HELP WILL BE LIKE???

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

I was in the Phx store on Sat as well...and I couldn't get enough. Didn't buy much but it was nice seeing the mounts and the wide supply of merchandise. Living in San Antonio and having the choice between Wal-Mart and Academy it was great seeing that much outdoor stuff in one place. I personally like being left alone when I'm "hunting" in a store like that and have no problems with customer service. They can take all day to check me out if they want...I'll just make another round LOL.

Maybe the customer service problems you've experienced are not entirely the fault of the store. Could it be the employee pool they have to select from? There aren't that many experienced, hardcore hunters/fishermen/campers/hikers/etc. in the job pool who would be willing to work for the wage I'm assuming they pay. And some of these kids just haven't been taught proper manners and respect and it's going to take a while for them to learn. Doesn't justify it, but maybe explains some of it.

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

SOUNDS LIKE A BUNCH OF CRY BABYS TO ME. THOSE SPORTSMANS STORES ARE PUT TOGETHER AS GOOD AS A OUTDOOR SPORTS STORE SHOULD. BUT YOU GUYS ARE MISSING ONE HUDGE THING THEY ARE MEANT TO BE A WAREHOUSE NOT A FLIPPIN CATER TO YOUR EVERY NEED HOLD YOUR HAND WHILE YOU SHOP STORE GO PAY PRO SHOP PRICES IF YOU WANT THAT.HECK MOST PRO SHOPS TREAT YOU THE SAME WAY. SPORTSMANS MOVES SOO MUCH MERCHANDISE EVERY DAY AND THE EMPLOYEES ARE GIVEN A TON TO DO KEEPING IT ALL STOCKED WHILE TRYING TO BE SOME WHAT HELPFUL- TRY DOING IT YOURSELF ONLY MAKING 7/8 BUCKS AN HOUR. THATS WHY THEY HAVE A BUNCH OF KIDS OR GROUCHY OLD MEN WORKING THE COUNTERS, SO INSTEAD OF COMPLAINING JUST SHUT YOUR YAPS AND BE THANKFUL WE HAVE STORES LIKE THAT.

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

Wasn't it nice to go to a store and see the women following the men around and (most) look bored? I loved it!! Finally, a store for outdoor enthusiasts and not Tiger Woods wannabe's. I did not see a single person with their collar flipped up but I saw dozens of people wearing some type of camo.

I found the service at the phx store to be excellent. Personally, I don't like to be hounded by salesman but if I have a question I want one available and somewhat knowledgable. I found this to be true at this store. I would have to agree with Hooter's comments.

I see this store cutting into Cabela's and Bass Pro shops profits. Their prices are basically the same as Cabelas but with no shipping or waiting. These stores will eventually have to offer free shipping or reduce prices by at least 10%. The Metro phx area has been waiting for a store like this for a LONG time.

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

Make sure you stay out of the clothing department in that store. One of the sales reps grabbed my rear end and he wasn't going for my wallet.

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

Isn't it a wonder that so many people think that the employees do not know what is going on. From my experiences, 9 times out of 10 its the customer that doesn't have a clue. There is customer service and there is "customer service" it works both ways

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

While in town for the weekend, I went to the Midvale store. Back at the muzzleloader isle three people asked if I needed help and one guy gave me a customers tip that a little wonder lube on sabots makes for easier loading and better groups. At the pistol counter the guy told me about a custom gun (Encore) maker I'd not heard about and at the optics counter the guy tried to help me work up a bino buddy type strap that would carry my binocs and rangefinder.

I guess all retail workers have bad days but these folks went out of thier way to be helpful.

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

Oak- You are male, right? I know it's a silly question, but I have had most of my problems out there because I am not, and I really really hate to think that it is because I'm not that I have been passed over twice when someone else walks up, I've been asked if my husband sent me over to pick up ammo, I've watched the guy at the optics counter talk on the phone while I patiently waited, then immediately hang up and help the guy that walks to the counter. It has happened too many times to count, I've talked repeatedly to the manager about it, and it hasn't changed a whole lot, which is a shame. I would really enjoy talking about ballistics, sabots, decoys and calls with someone knowledgable, just like I do here. Unfortunately it happens rarely at the Warehouse. As a result, I go in expecting to go away disappointed( and yah, that's my problem with attitude, I guess).

I will give credit to the one salesman who did make an effort to look into their stockroom for a turkey fryer basket after I had asked if they carried them. It was the first time I didn't get the 'nope, and we don't care if you wan't it,either' attitude.

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

Just lets not forget about our local hunting and fishing small stores
If we all shop at the large chain shops than any local compitition will go out of business and the large chain stores will raise their prices.
Many times you can ask your local store to price match an 9 out of 10 times they will
Just don't forget about the small local shops

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

Pred,
Sounds like you've got a different issue than just lousy customer service. Maybe these sales people are intimidated or just downright anal retentive when it comes to women hunters. It explains alot that they only take you serious when your buying stuff to cook with! Maybe next time you should go in uniform (hehe).

As an avid woman hunter I suppose you come across more than your share of stereo-typed treatment and it's easy to see how catalog ordering just makes for less crap to deal with.

The Warehouse isn't the be all end all of sporting goods but my customer service experience hasn't been a bad one in fact it's about the same as the Cabela's or Bass Pro's I've been to.

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

I guess I just feel that a customer is a customer, I suppose. It is a shame, tho, cuz I do go out of my way to try to patronize Utah stores and purchase Utah products, because I have seen what the big chain stores will do to the little guy.

Then again, I give a whole lotta money to Wyoming every year, because I can draw there!! LOL

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

You've got to be talking about Blue Lakes. I grew up in Twin Falls and they have been ripping me off since I was in grade school.

Looking forward to Sportsmans! I'm in Hailey now, but I get to Twin a lot.

Josh.

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

It's funny how all of you guys come in asking for whatever and never even know crap about it. We have to fill you in with all the details. I am finding that all of you huntin fools either are missing a tooth, or need to act like you know it all because you are the BIG BAD HUNTER (with your trucks lined up outside showing your new quad off to everyone that comes into the store)......oooooooh I'm impressed.

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

The reason hard core hunters don't likes to work at sporting goods stores is, for example, if you are an archery expert and work in the archery dept, good luck getting any time off for the archery season. That is why I quit working for sporting goods stores. If its equipment advice you want, use this web site to get it, otherwise your just getting the opinion of a sales clerk that don't know what their talking about. I use to live near a sportsmans warehouse and then I moved and the closest one is a 3 hr drive. While they might not have the best customer service they usually have everything I need and at a fare price. The sporting goods store I live near right now ( Hurst Sporting Goods in St george, UT ) is way over priced and doesn't really stand behind their products. For Customer service and price I haven't found anyone who will beat Cabelas.

HEY SPORTSMAN EMPLOYEE

NEXT TIME LOOK A LITTLE CLOSER!!!

I'M MISSING 5 TEETH AND TAKE A LOOK AT MY 'RIG',YOUR NOT GONNA LIKE IT AT ALL!!!

THE OLD RIG TAKES ON MORE HELL IN ONE HUNTING SEASON THAN YOUR RIG WILL EVER SEE!!!

JUST KEEP YOUR HIGH PAYING JOB,STAY OUT OF THE WEATHER,WE KNOW YOU WON'T GET YOUR HANDS DIRTY,QUIT WORRYING ABOUT THE KIND OF RIGS WE DRIVE AND START DOING YOUR DAMN JOB!!!

THE ONLY bobcat THAT HAS BEEN CALLED A FOOL MORE THAN ONCE!!!

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

Most employees in sporting goods stores are wanna bees.......I will ruffle feathers but that is the truth. The ones that really care are either older people that are supplementing income or very young and have passion because the job is something that relates to their hobbies and they like it. Most of the guys in the Phoenix store wear all the clothes and hats to make them seem like "Hunters/outdoorsman" but they are clueless. We need to be the Clued In shoppers and know what we want and pass along input to the employees. The corporate office cannot afford the income it would take for experts in every department we want so unfortunately it will require dealing with people that have "no clue" on alot of issue......... Allen Taylor......

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

I was there about a week ago and was in the Archery dept. and asked the sales person if I could check out the PSE Firestorm he had hanging and he said "the Firestorm?". A "DUH"- yeah that bow hanging right there...."Oh OK" he said. Then I asked if they would be carrying the Tech 29 by Bowtech. He had to go ask his freakin' manager. I said forget this guy and walked off. So yeah I would say some serious wannabes that have no business being behind the counter. I just grab what I need and go.

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

if they didnt pay shite for wages i would love to work there.

RE: The Sportsmans Warehouse

Bobcatbessy,
The Sportsman may be a fair weather hunter with benefits, but at least I'm not a bragging road hunter. I guess bottom line, you are spending a lot of time in your truck. Stop worrying about there sales assistance and start worrying about what you need for your quad. Good luck with your squirrel hunt this year.
