2013 Rifle Hunt Success

Going into this hunting season, I had one main goal, and that was to get my son onto a buck. He is 14, and this was his 3rd year hunting deer. 2 years ago we hunted hard, but just couldn't turn one up for him. Last year I was only able to take him out for a half day because of other responsibilities. I felt bad about that, and vowed to do better this year. We were lucky enough on the opener to spot a group of bucks in the morning, one of which was a four point, but couldn't seal the deal. later that afternoon we were up on a high vantage point, and spotted the same group of bucks, and watched them bed down. We were able to get within 100 yds of where they bedded, and the wait was on. after about an hour the bucks got up and worked to our right. We were able to work into a good position, and at about 250 yds I got my son set up on shooting sticks, and he made a great shot on his first ever buck. After a second shot to finish him off, we both looked at each other in disbelief, and then started hooting and hollering. He said "Dad, I just shot a four point". It was definitely one of the best moments I have ever had while hunting. He was proud as could be packing out the head and cape.

I was able to get back out a few days later, and kill a buck for myself. I spotted him bedded at about 1400 yds, and stalked to within 350 yds. I was alone, but had a video camera and a tripod with me, so I decided to try and film my own kill shot. It turned out great. That's so awesome! If I could venture a guess, I'd bet you were more excited about that buck, than about any you yourself have taken. I can't wait, I'm a couple years away with my boy, he can't wait eiter.
