Rutting Bucks on the Wasatch

General question for you all, with the mild weather we have been having this fall is it possible that the deer will be rutting up high? Lets say at or above 9000 ft along the wasatch front? I guess I am wondering if the majority of the deer are still high or if they have moved down low. Seems to be warmer this year than in the past so I was thinking they still might be high. Can anyone comment?

Also another general question.... Do the deer that spend their summers at the tops of the mountains/heads of the canyons in the Wasatch, do they all migrate to the lower elevations on the actual front side (seems like a really long ways to go)? Or do the deer that are at the heads of the canyons just find a nice south facing slope up high and spend their winters in the sun? I seem to think the latter but not sure.

THanks for the help!

To your second question...it depends on where on the front you're talking about. Some will come down lower, but the big boys may stay much higher.

To your first question, I saw 2 bucks pushing 2 groups of does today at about 6500-7000 ft. Again, depends on where on the front you're at.

Good luck!

the bucks are where you find them. I have seen them anywhere from peoples backyards on up to 9000ft. It all just depends on if the does are there or not. I have seen tons of 2 points though. It looks like they are getting all the action this year for all the does that are down low. But I have been chasing great 150 to 170 class bucks in the last couple of weeks down low too.

Look for the Does, you will find the Bucks.

Doesn't matter how high the Bucks want to be, they will be following the Does and in my experience the Does tend to be lower in general.

No snow may keep them higher but not much in my opinion.

I saw several nice bucks fully engaged in the rut this week at 7000 feet. Find the does and the bucks are there following them. Great time of year!
