for you Wasatch Ext. hunters-

If a bowhunter is just trying to fill their tag and willing to shoot any deer, it's most likely to have a chance at a doe or yearling buck (spike/forkie). Many times the young bucks are with the doe groups so its likely to have a shot at either.

So, if you had a choice, which would you prefer the hunter killed?

1. Doe
2. Yearling Buck

Niether one!~

You're Killin the Breeding Stock & Future Possible Big Bucks!

I used to know of places worth Hiking in to for Elk & Deer!
Thanks to Illegal Bastards & the USFS not enforcing Rules you can Zing in to them Places on Wheelers now & not see a Damn thing!
But by GAWD it don't take long for them U-Tards to get there with all the Unethical BS and the New Technology!

LAST EDITED ON Nov-13-13 AT 05:14PM (MST)[p]Dry Doe. This is an either sex hunt because the population is above objective. Let the green fruit ripen.

neither. but if you had to choose and didn't care which one you shot I would say shoot the doe.

Neither one. When I 1st started to hunt this area 10+ years ago or so, there were A LOT of deer. I was out this last mid week and saw 2 yearling bucks, 2 mature bucks, and 10 does. Back in the day, there was 2-3 X's that many. Dont get me wrong, there has been a few good days this year that I have seen 20-30 deer and 1/2 of them bucks. They need to do away with the doe hunt for a bit.

There is now way that unit is above objective.

Rob,

Sounds like either the extended season should be discontinued or the deer are not concentrated yet.

The whole point of the extended hunt is to keep the deer numbers down. I hunted it the first couple years and it was a slaughter because there was literally deer everywhere. People were tired of all the deer down in the city in the winter. So the dwr made the hunt alot longer trying to slim the herd down.

We used to rifle hunt this unit up to the last year they closed it. It would be absolutely nothing to count over 20 different bucks in just a morning. Keep in mind I wasn't old enough to pull the trigger nor did we own a spotting scope then. I don't believe this herd is over objective but rather under by a long shot. Therefore I would never shoot a doe on this unit and would opt for the little guy!

I only believe in shooting does when the herd is over objective. The front is not over objective so I frown on shooting does at this time.

I could care less what caliber of buck you shoot. I personally try to not shoot at the yearlings.

who farted?

I would not shoot a doe or a small buck but that is a personal choice. You, on the other hand, are free to shoot whatever you want up there. Have fun and good luck!

Neither

I would not take the time to gut a doe or a two point.

Hunt harder for a real buck.

If its legal, go for it! Dont try to tell people what they can and cannot shoot, its their choice, their animal, their trophy. Not yours.

That being said, I wouldnt shoot a yearling unless I have my son with me and he wants me to, experience between him and I. Other than that I'm fine with tag soup until I get into a bigger buck!

If you are just looking to fill your tag, the first one to get with in range. Personally, I'd try for a buck even if it is a little forky.

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

Nevermind,

The guys above are right. Kill a doe. Also kill a 2 point.

It is totally worth it!
