My Dad turns 72 next month and he killed his first respectable buck this weekend. We don't have the money for a shoulder mount but I wanted to do something special for him and get a Euro mount done. We live here in Boise and I was wondering if anyone knew how much it costs to have a taxidermist have the beatles clean the skull and then bleach it?

Don't know what your local Taxidermy will charge?

But if the Buck is that Good, just get it done!

That or get a Shoulder mount for him!

I used to know of places worth Hiking in to for Elk & Deer!
Thanks to Illegal Bastards & the USFS not enforcing Rules you can Zing in to them Places on Wheelers now & not see a Damn thing!
But by GAWD it don't take long for them U-Tards to get there with all the Unethical BS and the New Technology!

I wanted to do a shoulder mount for him but he is old school and had the head cut off before I could get to him. Sliced and diced up the cape so bad I didn't want a patch job. He would love a euro just need to get it done...

get one of those metal tubs (small one for deer) that the skull fits into. Put it over a OUTSIDE heat source like a camp cook stove, heater etc...
Skin the head, cut off all the big hunks of fat, meat etc.. once you get it down to mostly skull, start putting it in hot water for a few minutes at a time. It loosens up all the meat, fat etc.. to get it off easier. once you get it 95% clean start putting it in the HOT water for like 1 hour at a time to finish cleaning it. I don't actually let it boil, just a few degrees short of boiling. once you have it completely clean, get 40% hydrogen peroxide from a salon supply store and mix the gallon jug into that same tub with water again and let it get super hot for a couple hours. You will see it turning white, once done let it sit out in the sun for a couple hours and you will have it WHITE and ready to hang on the wall.

I use a knife, and needle nose pliers to clean it. I end up cutting just the tip of the skull off on the back where the spine/skull come together to get a slightly bigger hole into the brain cavity so i can get my pliers/knife in there. Don't take much though, to make that entrance hole big enough. So don't get carried away with cutting back there :)

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

I literally just finished doing my sons buck today. Here's what you need......16 quart pot, a knife, pliers, a hotplate or a burner (stove or anything that has a flame that can make water boil), some Palmolive (degreaser), peroxide and powder bleach.

I watched a youtube video...simple as that. It doesn't smell very good but once you get all of the meat and brains out, it isn't bad. Oh ya...you'll need a piece of bailing wire or a coat hanger to get the brains out. It can take a day to do it...literally. Its not hard and you can do them forever once you learn how to do the first one.

I had one done last year and it cost me about $120 but that included shipping from Utah to Cali.

So Wisz?

Ms Wisz got any Hair Supplies left after your Bleached Scull Job?

Hopefully you didn't use it all!

My Mullet needs some Attention!

Instead of cutting the skull or using a hanger; just use a compressor with a peice of 1/4 in tubing threaded onto the hose attachment and blow it out after the first couple boiling series.
*****BE SURE TO BE OUTSIDE AND STAND TO THE SIDE, BECAUSE BRAINS GO EVERYWHERE!!!!!!

I also find that if you get the two part hair bleaching product from the salon, it makes and easy to use paste that you can put on with a brush. This limits any accidental bleaching of the horns. Just let it dry on there and then rub off any powder residue when done.

As mentioned above, when boiling make sure to use a degreaser. I am fond of Borax but that is just my 2 Cents.

I would suggest "scrambling" the brains and removing them prior to simmering, it will remove some of the stink and a bunch of fat and grease in the water.

Try this ! Does anyone recognize this ?

The good thing about a Euro mount is you can always do a shoulder mount later. If your dad or you decide to want to get a shoulder mount done, just get another cape and you're good to go!
