LAST EDITED ON Dec-16-13 AT 10:19PM (MST)[p]I'm planning my first "do it yourself" mule deer hunt for next fall. The list of questions that I have is a mile long, but here are a few of the big ones... I live and hunt whitetails in Missouri. Most of our hunting is from treestands. I'm hoping to hunt mule deer next fall in the Woodland Park, Colorado area. I will be hunting with a bow. What's the best method of hunting muleys in that area? Is it best to hang a treestand and hunt just liek I do here in Missouri? Should I hunt from a ground blind? Or is spot and stalk the method I'll want to use (seems like that would be tough in that area...). Any and all tips are appreciated. I'm going to head out this summer to do some scouting.

Sorry for the very basic question, but this is the first time I've headed out of my home range to chase a new species, and I thought I'd start by asking the pro's on here for some advice.

And the other question I have is ... do I even have a chance at drawing an archery tag as a non-resident with no points yet? The Colorado Hunting Game book is as complicated as I've ever seen...!

Thanks.

Steve

"Hunting is where you prove yourself"

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

Without looking I don't think you can draw with 0 points but you better check. There are a few of us around Woodland and I could help if you have more in depth questions.
Tree stands are an effective way to hunt, especially for elk, but it does take a pile of scouting to narrow down a muleys pattern.
Good luck with your research.

I have hunted both mule deer and whitetail. In my opinion, you will be chatting yourself if you hunt mule deer the same as a whitetail. Safety reading up on mule deer hunting, get some optics, and get after it. Your life will never be the same again.
