Looks like the Book Cliffs Rifle Deer Hunt has been split right along the Divide Road...

I hope this helps my chances. Past experience with others' tags indicated to me that there are lots more deer in the North portion of the unit. Maybe the tag numbers will be split accordingly..?? More tags allotted in the north unit versus the southern unit..??

Thoughts..?

Well it is going to be the opposite of what you are hoping for. Less tags in the North because it is easier, most people hunt the north part of the unit and the buck population is low so they are splitting and giving more tags in the south. I am curious to see what the tag split will be. Also curious to see what happens to the draw odds for both North and South? I assume the North will be the harder to draw of the 2 tags we will see!

They both have road access all over the place! The south end however does have a roadless section. The better bucks are killed on the south end because the deer can migrate off into the road less section or into the Indian reservation avoiding some hunting pressure.

Well all that information sucks. I now have 10 points and was really looking forward to hunting the Book Cliffs in 2014. With reduced tag numbers last year I had a smaller chance to draw (and I didn't) but I was looking forward to it this year, hoping a larger number of bucks had made it through the hunt in 2013.

Now, I'm not so sure. My family has only ever hunted in what is now the southern unit. It can be hard to hunt, and frankly, we haven't seen as many bucks as other guys have reported from the northern portion, but apparently that is all backwards. The DWR is indicating there are more bucks in the southern portion, and will be issuing more tags for that area. Seems I may now have more competition for the mature deer that tend to migrate south.

Seems I may have missed my best opportunity by one year. :(
