Larry Mower... without a doubt one of the greatest men I've ever had the opportunity to know. He's such a great example to all that he came in contact with. Even without the use of his legs he's been able to stand taller and accomplish more than most. He's covered a lot of ground in search of the majestic muley and it's mighty antlers and has always been willing to share and help others along the way. Unfortunately the Dr says he's not doing so well right now... It sounds like he may only be here with us for a short time... Larry has touched so many lives and I'm so grateful to have him as a friend. I wish there was more that could be done but with this unique and limited opportunity I'd like us to take some time and at least say thanks.

Let me be the first to say it Larry. Thank you for all you have done for us over the years. We love you bud.

Isn?t yellum pretty familiar with the antelop island deer? Seems he used to post deer pics from there

Ive always admired Larry from afar, and enjoyed his posts and input. Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to meet him in person, but hopefully one day. Stay strong Yelum!

Larry is a Very Good Example of perseverance, Humility, and one of the Great sportsman in our community.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-17-18 AT 05:56PM (MST)[p] I agree with the OP, yer A true living legend

I've always had the utmost respect for yelum.
He always had the balls to stand up for his friends No matter who was bashing them, or what was being said about them.
No doubt he would be a great friend to have.
Hang tuff Yelum, hope to see you back on here soon.
And thank you for all you have contributed to MM.

You can tell a lot about someone if you read a lot of their posts over many years. A long time ago I realized Larry had a lot of courage when he told about his accident that cost him the use of his legs. I could tell he was an exceptionally strong man. His passion and knowledge for mule deer was evident many times throughout the years. The one other thing I noticed about Larry is that he seemed to care about people on this forum.and be willing to help them. I have never met Larry and probably never will but I hope your health will improve you're important to this site. Best Wishes!

Thoughts and prayers, and as previously posted for new guys that don't know who he is or what he has offered the forum, the tour the Zac Griffith did through his home is very interesting. The guy is a mule deer junky that is for sure. Best wishes

Damn. Not good. Larry, Mr. Yelum, I could always tell by the manner you wrote your posts that you were a man of substance.

"Do not go gentle into that good night.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light."

Kick ass as long as you can, Larry.

Thats to bad a good guy. Just watch out at the Expo her may run over your toe's . :) :) Going to miss not seeing him around if he doesn't get better.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-17-18 AT 07:42PM (MST)[p]Larry is one of the greatest men I've ever met. His positive outlook on life is contagious. I spent many days driving across Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho with Larry looking for big Muleys in their winter range. I walked miles in the snow being his legs as he guided me via the radio. He often threatened to put a shock collar on me when I didn't want to go over that next ridge. Every time I wanted to complain about being too tired, I thought about how he must be feeling not being able to hike the hills. I loved seeing the animals and the beautiful country while driving Larry around but most of all I enjoyed the company. I'm truley a better man because of him.
I was able to spend sometime today with him. There is no doubt in my mind that there is a place in heaven just waiting for him. As his journey here on earth is coming to a end, another is about to begin. I'm so grateful for the example he has been in my life. I'm sure all of your thoughts and prayers are appreciated, and felt.

Several years ago when the track chair came out I suggested that we raise enough money to buy Larry his own chair. He contacted me and told me not to buy him a chair, but try to raise money for the wheel chair hunting group in Utah. The group sponsors hunts for kids. He put me in contact with the right people and we raised enough money here on MM to pay for a track chair which has been used by countless folks since then. Everyone respects Larry so much that getting the donations, frankly was easy. Even though this is a forum and you don't get face time with folks, it is clear that Larry is a class act who really enjoys mule deer. I wish him and the family the best and if there is anything I can do for him or his family, don't hesitate to ask.

Rich

I wasn?t as personally close as some of you were to Larry but I had known of him for years and finally sought him out at the expo.
I think it was actually the Full Curl Social where we had a chance to meet in person.
He was a giant among men and his knowledge of mule deer was over-shadowed by the quality person he was!
Praying for you Larry!

Zeke

Truly a class act. I had wondered where he had been, I'm sad to find the answer today.

From the party of HUNTIN, FISHIN, PUBLIC LAND.

In a lot of ways Yelum defines what MonsterMuleys is all about. I always pay attention when he has something to say and always enjoy his photos. His passion for big bucks is inspiring to all of us. Thank you Yelum.

Sad to hear. A man definitely respected and appreciated by his peers. Hope all goes well for him and his family.

Man that is a bummer to hear he isn't doing well! He will venissed greatly by many, many people. Truly one of the good guys!

Few have been able to face adversity and thrive like Yelum. Certainly no finer contributor on this site!
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Larry and his family.

Larry is an outstanding model of an exceptional human being.
To be even a fraction of who and what he is would make any man proud.
Good luck Sir, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during these extremely tough times.

Very sorry to hear this, other than on the forum I have never met him but I respect him greatly.

Larry,
WE LOVE YOU!!! Thanks for everything! You are the type of Man all of us strive to be.

You and your family are in our prayers

Larry,

Thanks so much for sharing your pictures, hunting stories, and life experiences. Thanks for the video tribute.

It was fun to see all your families mounts. WOW.

You have had a lot of great memories!

In your home you have a display. FAITH, FAMILY, AND FRIENDS.
Those three words pretty well sums up what is important in life. Especially at this time.

It was good to get to know you over the years. You are a man of faith, hard work, and integrity. A true mule deer fanatic as well.

Thoughts and prayers out to you and your family.

Tough to hear this news as Larry is truly one of the good guys here at MM. My nephews son had a very nice buck stolen a few years back and Larry was the first to offer a replacement... free of charge of course. I have never heard a boast or bad word come from this man. Thoughts and Prayers to you and your family.

Eel nailed it. It's such sad news hearing this as he is one man that I've truly respected on this forum. My best to his family and friends through these hard times.

I've never met Yelum, just admired him from afar. You can tell what kind of a person he is through his posts here. Definitely a very respectful good dude and one of the best contributors to this site.

Larry, wishing you the best and hoping you get through this one! Hang in there!

LAST EDITED ON Apr-19-18 AT 00:38AM (MST)[p]Thank you for everything you have done over the years Yelum! Larry's pictures are some of the greatest I've ever seen. He definitely loved big deer and his nicknames were classic. You truly will be missed by so many!! Thoughts and prayers for you and the family.

This man is top shelf.
He is always the first to lend a hand.
Can't say enough about him he is what most men try to be.

I personally never knew Larry, but I feel like I knew him through his pictures and passion for Mule Deer. The best to you and your family Larry, may God bless you.

Live the moment, enjoy the memories.

Several years ago Larry sent me a PM on a question I had about hunting an area in Wyoming, he was the first MM'er to give me some valuable advice on a hunting area. I love your photos also that you have posted over the years. May God bless you and your family.

I remember reading many of Yelum post when I first started here years ago. God bless you and your family, Yelum.

Good on you lostinOregon.

Larry, thanks for everything my friend. You made a positive impact in my life. I'll never forget you. 'Til we meet again.

Never met him, but a great guy for sure! Always genuine. Always true to who he is. Always willing to educate on Mule Deer. Always been a joy to read his posts and see his pictures. Hoping and praying for the best. He is a great man to learn from! Thank you for your many contributions to the hunting world. God bless you Yelum.

Sorry to hear that.

Life is short. Enjoy it to the fullest.

Thanks for all you've contributed to this site, Larry.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-20-18 AT 02:53PM (MST)[p]When I was hurt and laying in the hospital Larry came to see me. I was paralyzed on one side of my body. I asked him if it would become easier to deal with. He said, ?no, it will always be tough, it's how you deal with it?. I looked at him in his chair and realized what do I have to complain about?
A real game changer for me. I have seen all he has done, and knew I could overcome. That is Larry, inspiring those around him.
I got to see him a few days ago. Such an incredible person.
See you on the glassing knob Yelum!

Regrettably I have never had the pleasure of meeting YELUM. He has always seemed like a great guy with a true passion for mule deer. He always had some great pictures. I have seen pictures and videos so I know he is a wheelchair user. Do those who know him mind if I ask what his current health issues are? I ask mainly out of curiosity but also so a person could make a contribution to an organization in his name. We could all be more aware of such things and be more appreciative of the blessings in our lives.

Larry you have probably seen more muley bone and inches than most of us combined. I'm sure glad you have shared it with all of us in such a humble way. Stay strong, you truly are one of the good old boys!

Larry.... Brother, while I never had the privilege of getting to know you, you clearly had a tremendously positive impact on many lives, which gives us all something to aspire to. Hang in there, mate, and while we may never have the privilege to hunt together, you will always be welcome to join and accompany me on any of my hunts, in Spirit! Thank you!

I never had the honor and privilege of meeting Yelum. I have enjoyed his posts over the years and and have held his input and insights on hunting in the highest regard.

My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family...

Larry (Yelum),I was truly inspired the first time I met Larry out on the Wyoming winter range he was photographing deer many years ago. He is always sincere when responding to a post on mm and took time to remember people's names. One of a kind, that guy, need more of his caliber around. He has inspired all of us! Prayers to him and his family. Justin

I haven't been on here in forever but I definitely remember the name , the pictures , and the posts. Anyone with that much passion for the mule deer and willingness to help others is priceless , especially in today?s world. Those who know him personally are very fortunate. The rest of all wish we had a friend like him , thank you for all you've done.

...I have 2 working legs and 2 working arms and I am bitter and nasty on MM......Yelum has more reason than all of us to be bitter and nasty and he is NOT....he is the most respectful guy on MM and I strive to be more like him....

God bless Larry and his family.....

I honestly think about him often when things are tough...

Thank you Yelum for all you've given us.

Im not a spokesman for Larry or his wife Cathy. I am a good friend to them. Larry has always been a role model to me since he moved into my neighborhood when I was 17 years old. Larry was paralyzed after a motorcycle accident when he was 22 years old. I visited with him on Tuesday. He was unable to talk due to the breathing tubes he was attached to. Thanks to a good friend of Larry?s he was able to communicate via a laser pointer connected to his glasses and a poster of the alphabet. He is completely coherent but unable to speak. My last visit with him was very special to me. He asked that I come visit him in order to give me the mount of a buck that him and I had found years ago. It's my understanding that others had a very similar visit. It's been unbelievable how many people have visited Larry over the last week. Larry truely has brought many from the hunting community together.
To answer your question Larry was diagnosed with lung cancer about a month ago. His health has been poor the last few years. He has fought off many infections and other ailments that stem from being a quadriplegic. After being diagnosed with cancer last month Doctors told him he could have up to a year. Unfortunately because of his frail and weakening body he hasn't been able to go through the usual cancer treatments such as radiation or chemotherapy. What little radiation they did do had no affect. Each day is getting more difficult for Larry?s body. Please keep him and his family in your prayers.

Larry has always inspired me with his love of life, his love of family, his love of God and his willingness to share his love and passion with others. I am proud to call him my friend. Until we meet again my friend. Adam

This is very sad news indeed. I cannot add anything that has not been said about Larry and his example of triumph through adversity. What I did want to say instead was that it is heartwarming and a fitting tribute to him; reading through these threads and pondering life. It gives me so much hope in humanity, to see a group of strangers brought together in years of written thought and shared passion, open themselves up to pay tribute to others through sincere heartfelt compassion. There is so much good to this world, and so many good folks in it. There are so many kind and decent people we rub shoulders with Sometimes we get discouraged with life seeing a constant barrage of hate, evil, and discontent pitting one neighbor against another; or seemingly so.

This is just heart warming to see genuine love and concern for another. Let Larry be an example to us all, that we may strive to stand tall as he has each and every day. To live life with a purpose. To be kind to our neighbors. To show compassion to a stranger. To be a little better today than we were yesterday. To be proud and remain humble in our lives. To be patient and long suffering. And most importantly, to never take anything for granted be it family, friends, health, and so many other first world blessings each of us share.

Well said 1911

JMO, thank you so much for telling this part of YELUM's story. He sounds like an incredible man. Even in his darkest times he is generous and thinking of his friends.

Great post 1911. I, like others, have long thought highly of Yelum and I have never met him, messaged him, nadda.

One thing is for sure, there is a special place in heaven for guys like Yelum. The world would be a wonderful place if it was filled with folks half as good as him.

God bless you, your family and friends Yelum.

Never met Yelum, but from his posts I've read and what others have said about him he's definitely someone to look up to and admire for his strength and courage. I hope you beat this Yelum. God bless and prayers to you and your family.

Sorry to hear this about Larry, always a great guy no matter how things were in his life.
God bless Larry and his family.....

I honestly think about him often when things are tough...

Thx JMO. I hope he can see the list of dudes in here that he touched. I hope he escapes without too much pain.

From the party of HUNTIN, FISHIN, PUBLIC LAND.

Larry is a selfless individual with a true passion for mule deer and the outdoors. I am deeply saddened by this information. Please keep us posted.

Maybe my old man memory is working overtime, but I don't know who he is. Could you fill me in?

Larry is a great man and I will always remember fondly my interactions with him. I remember that my first time learning how to B & C score a buck was in his office-what a great time I had learning from him and talking about big bucks! I always respected how proud he was of his wife?s trophies in their home and it inspired me to include my wife more in my adventures. Larry is a local legend and he will be in my thoughts and prayers-Godspeed Yelum!

Great news tonight!!!!

Larry was able to leave the hospital today and go home. He is a warrior in every sense on the word. He is defying all odds. He is still very sick but he's not ready to leave this world yet. I have not gone to go see him since he returned home but I hear he is able to speak now that he is no longer using a ventilator. I'm sure Larry still has some good he needs to do. I have no doubt that the outpouring of love from so many is what is keeping him alive. I'm not sure what the future will bring but I do know that both larry and those who love him are enjoying this extra time they have to spend together.

Larry has been a fantastic example of a man and how we should treat and inspire others. very knowledgeable in the outdoors and life. what a great person.
hopefully he is able to continue to be that example and inspiration for many more years to come!
good to hear he is home.

Absolutely one of a kind. I am also so inspired by Larry. I haven't talked to him for a few months so I really appreciate this site/thread and all the memories listed above. I have been away for awhile. Super sad news to come back on this site and read this about Yelum. I thought I might travel to the expo one day just to look around and find him. Being a giant of a man I knew I could pick him out of a crowd. God bless you Larry.
