I have 9 points and have been putting in for the Book Cliffs the past few years, I know this unit well and have drawn it previously. I really think the unit has gone down hill the last 3-4 years. I don't want to hunt the Vernon, I'm contemplating putting in for the Dolores Triangle. I haver never stepped foot on the unit and have read how weather dependent the unit can be.

Like all of us I'm looking for a good mature buck but also a new area and hunting experience. This years dates are Nov. 1-14. Looking for advice. Anybody archery hunted this in the past? Would it be a worthwhile hunt?

Thanks for any insight.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-08-14 AT 09:52PM (MST)[p]my wife drew the rifle tag a few years ago when it was one of the huntin fools top pick.she had 13 points at the time. the hunt was far from a trophy hunted 8 days and we did see a lot of deer but the quality just wasnt there and yes we had the snow. the area we hunted was a 2 hour 4 weeler ride and there was no other hunters.she did kill the biggest deer we saw a 30" 3x4. i have hunted the books and diamond mt and i would hunt those areas befor i would hunt the dolores. but the dolores was a fun hunt with lots of deer and no presure but the quality sucks at least the year we were there.

Don't waste your point on an archery tag on this unit. I have hunted the rifle season twice and it is no slam dunk. Quality often times not too good.

I heard access to a boat is helpful to hunt the whole unit...the only way to access one part is by boat.
