When I was a kid my granddad shot this deer, took it home, ate it and then threw the horns in the backyard. After he died I got the bleached out skull and horns and then found a cape and resurrected them.
It now hangs in my office to remind me of him.

Huge Buck. Love the jeep. That thing got a huge body.

Great buck and I love the respect. I'd sure make an 8X10 of the picture and hang it right under the buck/mount. I agree, great Jeep and picture.

You guessed it!
The picture is right under the head.

This is the other picture I have.
He was ahead of his time.

Awesome post! That jeep is pretty sweet but the buck is incredible. Looks like your grandpa put some thought into his hunting adventures. Thanks for posting this!

very cool, thanks for sharing! Heck of a buck too.

Not sure how he walked around with that knife poking him in the thigh like that though :) I always have to have my items on the side or back, very annoying if in front.

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

That is absolutely awesome!! Thanks so much for sharing the great buck and the awesome pictures!! Do you know what year the buck was taken? That would be cool to know. Again thanks for sharing the great memories!!

The deer was shot in the early 60's near a ranch we had in the Basin.

It is quite a rare deer because it was shot DURING the season.

Cool!
A kick-azz guy, with a neat jeep, shooting a killer buck!
Priceless memories! Thanks for sharing.

Those old dudes were pretty cool! I miss all the old guy in my family. Dad has been gone for 25 years this coming September.

OMG that is such and awesome buck. Glad you were able to get that deer mounted....so many memories for you. I'm thinking we all wish we were back in the day :) beautiful Pic and memories for you of your Grandfather. Thanks for posting it makes me also think of my days hunting with my Grandfather back in the 1960's. Although we never took a buck like your Grandfathers.

My grandfather did the same thing, throwing his biggest trophies away. I have only seen one picture of two big bucks and the word of his children that he really did shoot them. The only memory that I have of my grandfather is him sitting in front of the TV until he was put in a rest home. The otherside of my family did the same but the picture part. That is why I always keep my biggest trophies. I would like some kind of honor and dignity in my family and not just a big belly.

I am glad that my father saved his trophies. When he passes on they will be displayed either at my house or one of my brothers with honor and respect, no matter the size.

If you couldn't tell, hunting means more to me than filling a tag or my stomach. I want to write more, but for respect to your thread, I will keep my opinions to myself. Thanks for sharing.

I'm not one for telling my grandson how big of turd I had to pinch off from having to eat so much meat. I want to give him the trophies that hang from my wall and tell him the unforgettable experience that came with each and every one.

Very cool photo! Awesome buck! I also have a buck from my grandfather that always reminds me of him. Nice old flattie too! Great post!

Great job saving a family relic. IMO, those old Bucks and Bulls are family heirlooms of the highest order!

My grandfather used to do the same thing. Throw his big ole antlers out in the shed in his pasture to get eaten on my mice and other things over the years. To this day, he doesn't have a single set of horns off any of the big deer he killed back in the 60s and 70s.

It's awesome that you were able to have such a great memory of your grandfather restored. Also, that buck is unbelievable.

How was your grand-dad related to the late Jay Colledge from Lehi?
Zeke

Awesome. And your very lucky to have that.My grandpa lived in Lumberton NM right next to the Jicarilla and had a few great mounts. The family didn't want them so my mom asked me and I said yes, they were absolute huge bucks.Well long story short, the family decided I wasn't far enough up the family chain and I heard the sold em to a guy who was planning on opening a bar but never did...Oh well,I have no control over any of it , just wished...
