Your choice .... which is it?

OK, which would you rather...........

Take buck #1 with your rifle on a general season hunt or buck #2 on a general season archery hunt?

Let's say neither buck was found scouting. You spotted the buck on opening morning. Stalked to within 250 yards of the rifle buck and took him or stalked to 45 yards of the archery buck and got him.

You invested the same amount of time pre-season scouting, shooting and all else.

Which would be more special to you? Which would you rather have? Bigger with rifle, or a bit lesser with a bow?

PS - The fine big buck pics are by Peter Eades. See more in our Photo Tours section of the site. Thanks Peter!!!

Yeah, #1 for me too.

I archery hunted years ago but gave it up with several lost animals in our group. To each his own on that!

LAST EDITED ON Jan-13-14 AT 06:51AM (MST)[p]#2. But would get closer than the 45 yds. Would love a velvet buck.

No choice for me #2. I would much rather kill a deer at 45 yards with a bow than any deer with a rifle. If you were under a hundred with a muzzle loader then #1, but no deer with a rifle. Just my preference, and I would never judge anyone for doing it different then me. Both are cool deer!!

Number 1 for sure for me. Would love both at Archery or Rifle but number one is a unique animal. I feel that 2 is more common looking but still awesome.

They are both cool, and as far as the bow vs rifle it doesn't matter to me. If I seen both standing next to each other with either weapon, I would probably end up shooting #2 anyway.
I like racks with lots of mass to them.

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

Tough decision. Both world class bucks.. would like to see #2 finished out, he is still balled up on his tips. #1 would be my choice due to already having a big velvet typ.

# 2. In saying that for me the challenge of getting in to bow range which for me is 0-50 yards is the most challenging, but rewarding for me. I still want that big velvet buck. They both are magnificent animals. Just my preference. The big guns just don't do it for me. Thx for the pics.

I do like velvet antlers and do want to shoot a velvet buck someday, but there is no way I could pass on buck #1 over buck #2 no matter what weapon was involved.

Definitely #1 I do bow hunt some but only to extend my seasons, weapon or distance make no difference to me. You won't see too many like #1.

#1 all day. I was actually fortunate enough to have to make such a decision this year - 200" typical vs. 212" non-typical literally side-by-side. Guess which one is at the taxidermist? :)

I like the second bucks rack better either way, but having the scenario you placed before us, I'd prefer the first buck just because he has the hard horns...

Couple of sweet deer.

I'd shoot either one and be proud to do so. But I'd probably pick #1 if both were together. The left beam on the velvet buck looks short, but with the mass and frame, I really wouldn't care.

Both are studs.

#1 no question.

#1 - no hesitation.
