Which One and Why?

Deer #1 you found while scouting.
You are going to have to hunt him in the archery season and your odds of taking him may be slim. Possibly you may be able to hunt him in muzzleloader or rifle if you can keep tabs on him but odds are archery is your best bet.
The country is rugged and tough and will involve extreme effort to get there much less hunt him.

Deer #2 you have some friends that say a big buck has shown up on the ranch that usually frequents town. Everyone around knows the buck is timid and almost tame but happens to sport a monster rack.
The buck is hanging around the same area every day and it will be an easy shot with your rifle. Your odds of tagging this buck is 100%.

So how many tags do I have,3 or 4, ok 4 it is.
I would hunt the archery buck first then later in the season. I would whack that easy town buck to fill the freezer.
Then I would find Yelum's typical and whack him too.
Then I would Buy a few lottery tickets because I know for a fact I was going to win it too. LOL

I'm getting Tired of Bucks like # 1 kickin my Ass!

I'm gonna take an easier Hunt in 2014 & Hunt in the City Limits where there's a 100% Chance!:D

Who cares??? Hunt the one that makes you excited. To say there is 100% guarantee on the late season muley sounds a little far fetched. I hunt late season critters every year. There never is a 100% chance at success. These are wild critters. Not someone's pet. I see where Jerry is going with this. He is making a judgement on what he 'thinks' is the hardest hunt and therefore what he calls 'a real' trophy. That is up to him. He thinks everyone else should be shamed if they chose the easier of the 2. For some reason Jerry has this bee in his bonet that everyone that hunts differently from him is somehow wrong. I once watched him jump onto Realtree Outdoors and tell everyone there that they aren't real hunters because they hunt from treestands with bait. I have a real problem with hunters like Jerry that look down on other hunting methods only because they are 'different' from the way he hunts. The slope is very slippery. Some hunters frown on houndsmen because how hard is it to kill a critter up a tree. Do we want to go down that road and loose everything because everyone doesn't hunt like us????

Check out Mr.BCBOY and his comments on the thread he is talking about me being so demoralizing on.
http://www.monstermuleys.info/cgi-b...w_thread&om=3817&forum=DCForumID5&archive=yes
Looks like he himself joined the same thoughts on the matter.
Now who is speaking out two sides of there face?

Lets really make this debate worth while. Lets use some of my 'friends' as a example. These are California Bighorns.

Ram #1 is in a newly created Limited Entry zone that borders the city of Kamloops. I've seen this ram less than 100 metres from a trailer park and I've seen him 6 kms or more from town.
P4220097_zpsbd6069a6.jpg

Ram #2 is in an adjacent Limited Entry zone that is about 12 kms from town. I've never seen him any closer but doesn't mean he doesn't venture closer.
P5250067_zps8cacfb79.jpg

The rams in both units can cover a ton of ground in a short period of time. There is a lot of wilderness that they do live in throughout the year. All rams wander in and out of the units. When I take pics of them in the winter and spring they are pretty darn docile. I've been under 20 metres of both of them. These 2 units hold lots of rams and there is a chance at bigger than these two.

What ram would you put in a draw for??? Would you choose to not to put in the draw because the hunt wouldn't be a real 'ruff and tuff' sheep hunt. Would you choose to put in somewhere else where the odds of seeing a legal ram is slim to none but at least you would be 'really hunting'?

+1 BCBOY, you nailed it!

I guess Jerry could be a good guy but he PM's me years ago when i posted a good buck that i killed way up in a snowy basin on the last day of the season. I wasn't overly proud of the take. It was a nice heavy horned mature buck but i had been passing up even bigger bucks most every day and there were a couple around that were flat out toads i never saw. BTW, i hunted those bucks each day on foot by myself from the flats up to the very tops of the Ruby Mtns. Anyway, Jerry must have felt the need to give me the riot act because i wasn't happier with my buck. lol

Answer: are there any doe tags for that ranch? J/K

Jerry,
I was an a$$ then. Still am. I used to think it was fun to yank people's chains. Still do. I used to stir things just to get reactions. Still do. Now, I just pick on the guys like you that are easy targets. Was I right, Am I right? Nope! See, not that hard to admit wrong is it. You would think you and Topgun would have come to that conclusion a long time ago. Hahaha.
BTW if you didn't realize, I never was punted from that sight like you were. I actually walked the fine line and then made amends. I actually made some friends there too. :)

I personally like the hard, physical aspect of the hunt, but even deer in town need to be harvested to keep populations in order. I guess like BCBOY is saying ... to each their own. If someone wants to shoot a deer in a farm field, and they're happy, then I don't really care. Heck, the person killing it might not be doing so because of some macho need to prove their skill. Maybe they just want some deer jerky.

I honestly believe that even those guys who buy gov tags and kill big bucks in December that some guide found for them, know that their hunt isn't the most challenging. I don't think they sit at home and think they're better than everyone else because they killed a giant. They just go hunting and they enjoy it. It's legal, so I'm not going to pass judgment.

Founder,
I, too, like a challenge and hunt a lot of ground that kicks my A$$ every year. 25 years of hunting this way doesn't mean I wouldn't like to have a easier relaxing hunt every once in a blue moon. If I ever got lucky enough to draw a Kamloops Sheep Tag I would be thrilled beyond belief. I hunt with guys that have been bit by the Sheep Bug and have done 14 day backpack trips in some of the wildest country on the planet for Stones and Dalls. They still think it would be a blast to hunt the Kamloops Sheep tag. Who wouldn't????

Just remember, when you still the sh!t pot, you have to lick the spoon.

I would gladly shoot buck #2. Why? I'm too old to be climbing up those mountains any more. It would be the biggest buck I ever killed. I like the meat and know how to cook meat from older bucks. I don't care about the opinion of anyone else.

Talk about attacking other "hunters" while you do it to me and others that have the same opinions. That is as two faced as you can get.
Now who is it that thinks they are above everyone else?
I for one would never say I am the greatest hunter in the world but I can say along with many on MM that I actually hunt.
There is a difference and the slippery slope you speak of is those that want to take the hunt out of hunting if you would wake up. Then again your in Canada so you have no clue what is going on here.

You seriously think Gov tag dates are changed just because (I) wanted it that way? Get real.
Overwhelming support for the change is what got it done so you may need to spout off to another 100,000 or so residents here in Colorado that have the same opinions.
Obviously there are problems here that you fortunately do not have to deal with there "yet".

I started a post and you have chosen to spout off on your conspiracy theories. I asked a serious question and attacked nobody for there comments about it.
This is twice now I have shown everyone your two faced lies that you say only I participated in....Ya think maybe that is why your pissed at me? The truth hurts.

Which ever one I had a tag for, hopefully I have one for both, Im not gonna disriminate on killing a big buck just because he lived close to town, if it was legal it would be getting a bullet.

Bess AKA Elkassassin, I know full well what he is saying, and I dont agree with him.

So Bess, say you draw a henery mtn tag at the Expo, and the first day a giant 240+ non-typical you never seen scouting is standing 50 yards off the main road and you just happen to be the first one to see him would you let him walk?

Yall ready to take this up a notch?

I would kill buck #2. Most importantly because I have absolutely no business pursuing animals with archery tackle. I can't hit the ground with an arrow. As I result I personally choose not to wound and waste animals in such a fashion. I recognize it works for some people but not me.

The second reason I would kill buck #2 is THE CHALLENGE! That's right. It wouldn't be about the buck at all. It would be about beating the stalkers, not him. To watch a buck that is constantly being watched and photographed and being hunted by dozens to wait patiently for your moment to strike in a way where suddenly he mysteriously disappears right out from under everyone's noses WITH A RIFLE! That is challenge. Tons of people can go kill bucks in the high country with a stick and string and then post it all over the web. Only a few can be the David Blain of deer killing and make a 300 pound animal go poof like the deer never even existed. I would post no pictures. I would tell no one, because the longer everyone looked for him the more the legend of the buck would build. VERY VERY FEW PEOPLE IN THIS GAME COULD PULL THAT OFF. They just don't have the discipline.

One more thing JakeH?

I'm Drawing a Henries EXPO Tag this year?

Holy F##k!

Ok Bess, you draw the expo tag and I will put in for it with my 0 Points and pick one up as well. LOL that way you will have some competition for that 240+ buck on the side of the road. ;-)

Jerry,
I don't think you get sarcastic humour eh? As for a thread that's close to 10 years ago where I was a #####, that isn't news. I've been an A$$ more that that over the years but I have also mellowed since then. You on the other hand are still banging the same ol drum ain't ya? hahaha

As for no idea when it comes to Gov tags, well we do have this thing called the Special Sheep Tag here in BC. One tag auctioned off and one tag drawn for a resident hunter, who by the way, can enter as many times as he wishes as there is no limit to the amount of draw cards one can buy on this hunt. Hell, the odds are actually better than many of the regular sheep draws. All money raised in both the auction and the draw goes straight back to putting more sheep on the mountain. Season dates are incredibly long for this tag. And a resident gets the added bonus that this tag doesn't go against his yearly baglimit. So a resident can actually harvest 2 rams in one year with this tag. I support this method of conservation.

As for being pissed at you, nope! I actually am having fun with you. All smiles man. Don't take the internet seriously! If you are going to spout off expect guys to like me to pull the red herring just to watch the show.

Well played Tristate:)

If the tough hunt is so desirable, why do so many people put in for premium LE hunts? Everyone hear dreams of drawing the Henry tags.

Tristate It just archery season, Doesn't mean you have to use a bow. LOL

Wow knack!!!! I personally would shoot which ever one made ME happy at that particular time. Then I would care less about what others thought because I achieved the goal that I set out to achieve and it made me happy!!!!!!!!!

+1 BCBOY and sagebrush! Not everyone has the same idea of what hunting is. It's different to so many in so many different ways!

We need to stick together as a fraternity. Whether you like it or not. Treestand, spot& stalk, roadhunt, public, private, hounds, bait, etc, etc, etc. Each to his own!

I'm going with buck #2. I'm too old to climb up into that step nasty crap anymore. I have no desire to go there, but I still want to hunt. Does that make me a bad guy because I like it easier now than I did 10-15 years ago?

Trust me on this one...you will reach an age where your body will no longer take you where your mind wants to go!!
