Looking for help/advice on whether or not to apply and hunt in Wyoming limited quota areas 105,106,109 in November 2014. I have 8 maximum non resident preference points. Two well known hunting magazines say wait one to two more years. Should I wait and is an outfitter needed in these areas? Alot of public land and only 50 total permits. How physically demanding is it to hunt these areas?
I used to live in Wyoming for 13 years but never hunted these units. Have gone unguided and guided in many Western states. Never use Aaron Nielson or any of his cronies at Global Hunting Resources out of Colorado for any of your so called guided hunts!!!

Of you can get the tag get it. Lots of public. Good deer. I see 175-195" bucks from the highway all the time in november. I don't know how the two dot ranch works but if you can pay to hunt that place there is no need for a guide. Deer all over.

Very weather dependent hunt. A buddy of mine drew the tag in 2013 and couldn't find a buck over 170. Burned all his non-res points for a hearty bowl of tag soup.

You won't be able to hunt the two dot but you will see 170" bucks standing out there. Anything larger than that is not likely to exist on the two dot let alone where you can hunt.

I had this tag last year and sure would have liked to see ANY buck in the 175-195" range, let alone one from the highway! Based on talking to multiple other hunters, I was not alone in this experience. There were tons of deer though. I hunted a variety of habitat types and put a lot of miles on both my boots and my truck and did not see anything that would sniff 170". Lots of 140-150 and a few a little larger. It was awfully warm though.

All I know is that I was driving to Cody from Billings about nov 8th this past fall and I saw some deer out in the sage flats and two were bucks well over 180. I pulled out the GPS and I was sitting on public land and so were the deer. Could have dumped them both from the Honda Accord.

Tried to take a pic but the wind was blowing the spotter too much.

I'd take that tag in a second.

Thanks for all the information. I have the 8 max non resident points for my wife and I thus will apply for the unit this year.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-26-14 AT 11:42AM (MST)[p]Doesn't,t sound bad glacial21 said he saw lots of 140-150 bucks if they make it thru the winter they should be bigger this year.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-27-14 AT 03:24AM (MST)[p]You can hunt that area on a Leftover Region F tag---sans 1 week of hunt dates....

Think it thru man.

Robb,
Do you mean the Region F leftover tag for the same 1st (first) week as the limited quota 105/106/109 tag? I assume this would be approx Nov 1 - 8. Is that correct?

You can't hunt 109 without the limited quota draw. 106 closes for the General F tag on the last day of October. You can hunt private in 105 during a portion of November. The important units in the limited quota draw are 106 and 109. I live in 105 and it is only the last choice for deer hunting if you draw the limited quota tag. I sent you a PM a few days ago.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-05-14 AT 11:12PM (MST)[p]I drew it last year and I grew up in Cody so I have some buddies to hunt with up there that know the area. I live in Utah now and was excited to draw the tag as it has a great reputation for big bucks. The weather was very warm. I hunted hard across much of the area and saw a ton of deer, but most of the bucks were small - 130 to 150" max. I saw one buck I figure in the 180's but it was chasing and went onto private. I also saw a 30 inch 3 point I should have shot. I had a good time, but was somewhat disappointed in the deer. I ended up shooting a 170 buck on the 2nd to the last day as I had to get home. I killed a bigger deer the last year up there on Region F tag. Make sure you plan to hunt the last week (until Nov 15th) the deer really start to rut and come out of the woods. I saw the big 3, the 180 and the buck I killed on the last 2 days I was there.

Also, watch our for all of the grizzlies.
