My boy and his wife and another couple had a wolf run across the road on Highway 150 near gold hill. They witnessed it memorial weekend. Has anyone had any wolf sightings in the Uinta's?. They said it was a dirty white/gray color. It was running hard and fast.

Saw some 20 years ago near Elizabeth peak while Elk hunting. They didn't act afraid as I was walking to the side of them. Safety was off ready to blast one but I didn't want to scare the Elk.

....no wolves in Utah....it was a big coyote

Lets not be Na?ve about wolfs in Utah. I have another Son who lives in Wyoming, 3 miles from the Utah boarder. This son use to fly Apaches and still has friends in the Military flying. Last fall one his friends saw a Wolf Near the Meeks cabin reservoir chasing a Elk, it was on the Wyoming side but only 20 to 30 miles from this Highway 150 sighting.

I was listening to KSL a few weeks ago and heard an employee who works on the radio towers on top of the Oquirrhs say he saw a wolf up there a few years ago.

I have no doubt that there are wolves in Utah, but the Oquirrhs???
The whole mountain range is surrounded by cities, freeways and urban sprawl. How would a wolf get there?

LAST EDITED ON Jun-11-18 AT 08:12AM (MST)[p]Once on the North Slope in 2013 while archery elk hunting. Lone wolf.

Saw one at Strawberry Reservoir in 2012, another lone wolf.

2009 we spent a ton of time on the north slope. Gov trapper was up there. Would stop by shoot the bull(we had cold beer), but he told us then they were seeing wolves. Also said to shoot and bury big coyote.

2-3 years ago when they got that lynx up there, they were hanging roadkill in trees seeing what came in, and they weren't looking for lynx.

Last spring right as snow was coming off we road up Lizzy, just above McKenzie creek we cut a set of tracks.

So ya. There's wolves in Uintas.

In the fall of 2013, I cut a set of 2 different tracks running together on the stansburys, not anywhere near where a hiker or their dogs would be...

LAST EDITED ON Jun-11-18 AT 04:10PM (MST)[p]Hey Bess,

As a matter of fact, it was. I was shoreline fishing Renegade in November in a snow storm on a weekday. Hadn't seen a single person around all day. I look up across the water toward where I had caught and gutted a fish earlier in the day about 200 yard away, and saw what I thought was a large dark-colored dog, at first, right at the spot I had gutted the fish. I wondered, what the heck, where's the owner...not even thinking of wolves as a possibility. About that same moment, it looked up and saw me and spun around and took off the other direction. It took me a moment to realize what I had just seen.

It's been a long time since I've been up mirror lake highway, but ironically we decided to go up to the Provo River falls Sunday. It made me remember a time when my dad and I were somewhere between Kamas and the Utah/Wy border when we seen 2 wolves on the highway. This had to have been AT LEAST 25 years ago.

Not the first time a wolf has been in that area. About 8 years ago two wolves killed a sheep dog up there. The DNR killed the one wolf and the other one never showed back up.

"We don't have a gun problem we have prescription drug problem."

My buddy and I were packing in on the south side near Jackson Park and a big redish colored wolf ran right across the trail in front of us, maybe 50 yards. It was way to big to be a yote!!! We thought maybe we had just seen something else, but both of us seeing the same thing.... a couple days later on that trip we heard that big feller let out a howl, and it was pretty undeniable at that point.

Don't know about you but the $350k we send to BGF yearly is obviously a great investment.

I am skeptical of 99% of the reports given by sportsmen about wolf sightings. Including most of the reports given in this thread (How come we never, ever see these wolves on the thousands of game cameras in the field). However, I don't know how it would be possible we do not have wolves in the Uintas at this point just based on proximity to known wolf territories in Wyoming.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-18-18 AT 10:39AM (MST)[p]^^^this and all the reports of the Mexican wolf on the Strip. With trail cams on every water hole how come no pics?
Maybe the Mexican wolves don't drink water?

The Oquirrh Range goes south all the way to cedar valley and five mile pass. And the Tintic range is south of that so it is possible.

Funny, I thought Utah had a bunch of stand up hunters.

Confusing a coyote and a Wolf is like confusing a pony and a Kentucky Derby horse.

SSS = Poaching. You guy's poachers? Season's or tag requirements matter there? Bald eagle eat fish and kill game birds, same as Golden Eagles, okay to SSS them too?

I don't wish the impact of Wolves on you, but frankly we are doing fine in Idaho with them now. Best thing to do, since you know they are there, is to get seasons approved and keep those dogs honest. Elk will figure them out. They don't seem to bother the muley's as much, but do get into the WT's up north in certain places. Elk get quiet when they're around unless they are really fired up and then some times the elk bugle and the wolves howl back and forth, and that is kinda cool to be honest.

Oh there coming, and the wolves that dip into Utah from Wyo and Idaho are a hell of a lot smarter than anyone hunting them. These wolves have been chased by hunters, government trappers and helicopters. The wolves are not what you need to worry about, it's the scum bag radical enviromentalists that show up and tie up your legal systems. How do I know , because I hunt them hard. The wolf is the smartest animal in the forest .

According to my hunting friends in Idaho you haven't got them figured out and according to my friends that hunt eastern Oregon you haven't got them figured out. My friend I think you have blinders on.

I'll second this. One would be living with their head in the sand to think that wolves haven't expanded into Utah, Colorado, or even little portions of NV. That being said, if every one of the reports that get thrown out by people who's uncle's cousin's sister in law's dog groomer claimed to have seen a grayish redish blackish big dog in the hills were true there'd be a few more pictures by now. There is a veritable photo gallery of every buck over 180 inches and elk over 370 inches that exists (for the most part) and every one carries a camera phone/phoneskope or has trail cams out. Bottom line is there would be a lot more pictures unless you believe that wolves have figured out how to avoid water holes with cameras.

I'm skeptical on anyone's sighting who uses "seen" in place of "saw". Just like you said, probably there but when you say "you seen one" I question the source...

Sooo...If someone doesn't spell correctly or use proper grammar, their credibility is in question?? Gimme( sp?) a break.

Quite a few smart folks on here who can't spell or put together a proper sentence.

Great first post. This should go over well...

Yep! If I had a dollar for every word that is misspelled, incorrect punctuation that people use that includes the first post this guy made, along with improper words that are similar to what they actually mean, but not the correct one, I'd be a millionaire!

Sounds like a romantic who lives in the city and doesn't deal with the day to day of life in a place that he chooses to recreate. The romantic notion of the wild and wonderful wolf is great. In places like Yellowstone and the Frank church, they should be left alone to do what they do. To say "do not interfere" is ignorant for a person to say when he chooses to pick up a weapon and enter a place for the specific purpose of removing wildlife for any reason. Interfere is what we do! And I love it!

I love all the Utah wolf sightings. I have lived in Idaho for 2.5 years and spent an UNGODLY amount of time hunting in wolf country. Areas where there are documented wolf packs and have been for over a decade. I am yet to hear one or see one. Pretty sure I saw some crap one day though. Most of my buddies are the same, very rarely if ever have even seen one. But all you Utah folk see them EVERYWHERE.

Also the zone I hunt has tons of wolves, and it also has tons of elk. Go figure.

I think from this thread it is less than a dozen sightings in Utah and of them sightings only a few that are not associated with the Uintas. Remember one did get shot above Bevear Utah.
Dirt I think man has already interfered with mother nature. If man had not interfered with mother nature there would not be elk in half the places in Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Nevada.

I heard Steve Rinella talking about wolves. His point was all of us dream of Alaska, yet they are covered in wolves and brown bears.

Here's the reality. Wolves and bears will continue to expand. The money pissed down the drain trying to stop it is a huge waste. Millions spent fighting introduction, yet they simply walk across the border. Their expansion is a tribute to us. Without our work, our money, etc, there is no food or habitat for them.
All the money burnt in court on both sides doesn't save a single elk, or wolf. Lawyers get rich.

The millions we have given BGF should have gone into a management program creation. I personally haven't seen one. I know I saw tracks, and I know what the trappers are looking for up there as they hang road kill.

I don't own livestock. My family runs a ton of sheep in central Utah. I get that they disagree, but its public land grazing, they get no more say than I do.

I love all the D bags in this thread calling BS to those that have wolf sightings. Guess what? We don't give a ? what you think. Just because you don't believe it, doesn't mean it's not true.

There was also a black wolf trapped less than 2 miles from my home, in UTAH 20 years ago. I know, because you didn't see it with your own eyes it must be made up. Clowns ?

I don't doubt the wolf sightings. The "clowns" are guys that think they can illegally shoot them to keep them out. Funny stuff.mtmuley

Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana are living proof you can live with wolves. You can live with herpes too, but that doesn't mean you should.

If you live in an area that doesn't have wolves yet, you should go to the pound and get a pack of dogs and release them out in the wild. The local wildlife will be better for it.

One of the problems that exist is the wolf lovers letting hybred dogs/wolves go. The 5 that were up between Springville/Spanish Fork and Strawberry turned out to have nothing to do with the yellowstone wolves. DNA proved that.

No Doubt!

There's Some Hybrids around as Well!

If They'll Turn a Bengal Tiger Loose in KALI!

They'll Damn Sure Turn a Hybrid Wolf Loose in TARDville!

There's a Few Real ones around as Well Boys!

Anybody know any Hunters in TARDville that'll Say:

Hey Joe?

That looks like a Wolf?

I Don't Know Jim?

He Looks like maybe He's only 63/64's Wolf!

We better not Shoot,He Might be a HYBRID!

The division could care less about the hybreds. One guy a few years ago shot one attacking him fishing. DNA showed not yellowstone wolf and that was it. Someone used the proper method of SSS but it still was fiund in tye fork. Turned out a hybred. Case closed.

Nobody is putting trail cameras in the Uintas to get snapshots of doe deer and a rare cow elk...

My dad and sister saw one on the Henry's Fork trail leading up to King's Peak 5 years ago. North Slope. Not just a flash of it. It was just cruisin across an open meadow at a couple hundred yards. Scared em a bit cuz it was so big compared to seeing a yote.

"Therefore, wo be unto him that is at ease in Zion!" 2 Ne. 28: 24

I know of a pack that lives on the south slope. In the particular drainage they can be heard and seen quite often from what i understand.

I'm also 95% sure I saw one near strawberry reservoir about 10 years ago.

I hunt wolves all winter up in Idaho. If they do show up in Utah all you have to do is put out a big finders fee like you do with Elk, Deer and Sheep and your problem will be solved.
