Southwest desert deer

I am looking for some general advise on this unit for deer. I put in for deer on this unit as I expected to draw a LE elk tag with my points, and I hoped to be able to hunt both while I was there. I was surprised when I drew the deer without points, but missed out on the elk tag. I see that it is a large area and have heard that there are not many deer on this unit and they can be difficult to locate. If anyone would be willing to give some tips for hunting deer on this unit or general pointers on where to start scouting it would be appreciated.

Thanks
Jsc

A lot of hunters go to the Indian Peaks but around the State Line Mining District on the Nevada border their are some water sources I would look into.......

Nevadahunter I was thinking of looking into the peaks area because it was higher elevation and I figured there might be a few deer there, but I will have to check out the other area as well. Does the peaks area get a lot of deer hunters or mainly elk hunters?

Your on the right track in the peaks area , seen a great 190 class buck there a couple days in a row while hunting spike elk , actually put my kids in for this unit this year because of this buck , according to the dwr this unit has the highest buck to doe ratio in the state , i drew a le archery antelope tag and usually live on this unit all summer long scouting for elk and would love to share any info that might help you !
