I drew a muzzleloader tag here and havent been there. im looking into the NW corner and doesnt look like there is much around there. anyone know where the nearest store, fuel, services are from summit lake? any information will be helpful.

Thanks.

Travis

Summit Lake isn't close to anything. Your best bet for fuel, hotel and a great bar is Denio Junction. For a full store you better bring everything you need and a Yeti or Grizzly cooler. This is where those coolers are worth every penny. You can't just run down to the store and get more ice every other day.

Soldier Meadows has facilities to stay. Other than that bring EVERYTHING you need. Not much at all in that area.

do they fix flats in Denio? They probably do, may be half of the town business??? probably use a quad to get around if the roads are bad, save the truck tires. thanks for the heads up.

I don't think they fix flats. I may be wrong but they just sell gas. You may have to drive to Gerlach or Winnemucca. Easier to bring spares than to drive 3-4 hours round trip to fix a flat. That is why I always bring a sat phone up there. You generally won't have cell phone service and you are a long ways away from help.

Id stay at Soldier meadows. At the ranch house or at the blm springs or line shack. The ranch is very nice with camping or full service rooms. The prettiest woman in Northern Nevada can cook as well and the prices r good. Good area to hunt on the Ridge top of the Blackrock range right to the east of the ranch.Look at Big MT. Bh1

I'll second the recommendation for Soldier Meadows. Good access to the top with a quad or side by side. You could do it with a truck but an ATV is way quicker. You can either rent a room there or they will allow you to rent a space to setup a camper or tent. They will also allow the use of the facilities (bathrooms and showers) even if you're only setting up a tent or camper. We stayed there last year for a week and a half during a CA bighorn hunt in 034 and it would have been tough to beat that spot to camp. I would also second the recommendations above to pack in whatever you think you're going to need for the hunt, and then some. You're in an extremely remote area and basically on your own. Fuel is an issue up there so bring plenty of it. Good luck on your hunt.

I get cell service way up high in unit 034. I also get cell service a few miles south of soldier meadows then it stops until I get up on top in unit 034. I do have a phone booster from wilson electronics. One of the best purchases for 100 bucks. I also carry a sat phone in that country sometimes. You can rent the sat phones. Don't count on Denio to have fuel all the time. Gerlach is better bet to always have fuel.
