I'm guessing many of you are like myself and set a goal to scout X number of days and to find a certain type/size of buck. So. what are your goals for 2014?

Seen a huge buck last year in the middle of dec. in an area that doesn't have a lot of deer. I plan on scouting the high country around his winter grounds to try and locate him. I have a pretty good idea on where he will be summering at. Wish me luck. Ha

I have not seen any monsters but if I can get a quality buck I will be happy.

found a nice buck last year but once the season started he was no where to be seen. Hope I can find him this year

I'll continue to try and tag a 180"+, 30"+ wide buck.
My workload is very unpredictable, so it's hard to say how much scouting I can get in. I am planning on a couple different trips in the next couple weeks.

There's always next year

Usually do and will for my Elk hunt, but with a Rut/Migration hunt it'll be a lil tough...Once late November, early December hits, I'll be out...

I received my new Kifaru pack yesterday so I am stoked for scouting which starts the first weekend after the fourth! I hope to get in 10 legitimate days of scouting this year with several multi night backpack trips. I honestly have hopes of a 200" deer but won't say I'm holding out for that.

The mountains, not the hills.

For many years, i liked going scouting each night before the season almost as much as i did the hunting. I went EVERY evening and not only had them patterned, i had the bucks named.

Nowadays, i go scouting by going fishing at one of several high mountain lakes that i can drive to in a hr or less from my house. There is one nice little lake that only has one campsite, it's literally full of pan sized to 18" trout, and always has a resident herd of deer nearby that use the lake to water.

I can back my pop-up camper very near to the shore, set up a camp chair, cast out a line, and glass for watering bucks with my rifle there with me or not depending on the season.

Now that i'm older and not in such good a shape, it's the going that counts to me, not so much the effort involved or getting a good one like it was years ago.

I have already been up to Wyo twice this spring scouting/hiking ect. one more time in July.

I am heading to Montana on my sheep tag scouting/getting to know the lay of the land ect in August.

Exciting time of year.

Find the one I missed last year, hope that he's even better, and then hope nobody else sees him }>

My #1 scouting goal is to find a big NonTypical mule deer in the high country. My #2 goal is to find the biggest bull moose in my hunting area.
My hunting goals are to harvest these two animals. I plan to spend as many of my days off work in July and August scouting as I can without my wife divorcing me;)

It will depend if I can draw a tag in az. I only put in for the rut hunts, and if I draw I should have a great year. If I don't, I will then look into alternatives.

I've already located a few nice bucks in the highcountry. My goal is to get out 1-2 times a week and pattern them and watch them develop.

I want to scout (arguably) the worst sheep unit in the state of Colorado.
If I can find rams in September I will apply there in 2015. After 29 years in for big horn sheep
I need to draw. The one thing I know for sure is I will never kill a Big Horn Ram before I turn 50!!!

My goal is to spend 15 days in Wyoming scouting and a few in Utah. My goal is to turn up a 200-incher in Wyoming and 175-180 in Utah. I know the 200 in Wyoming is a mighty stretch, but that's my goal. I think it's possible if I can look over enough bucks.

I'd like to get over to Colorado and checkout some high country for a few days, but not sure I'll fit that in.

Because. upon the conclusion of last years archery hunt, i made the switch to traditional archery equipment, I will view any legal animal as a trophy. I currently have seven days of scouting under my belt, this year. I figure i will end the scouting season with about 17 days under my belt. Because any legal animal will suffice this year, my scouting is more or the joy of scouting and keeping my skills sharp.

I drew all my first choice tags. My daughter did the same with elk and antelope. However, my sheep tag is now all time consuming. Been out four times so far and will be back out several more times before the season starts. Wish I had a deer and elk tag for this area as I've seen some whopper bulls and bucks. Everything is taking a back seat until I have one particular ram on the ground...

Same as every year... Find the largest bucks, bulls, rams, and billies as possible and gain as much knowledge of the country as possible.

My plan was to have already been out a couple times looking for either deer or mtn goats. However, my heart attack (bump in the road) and some family issue I had to deal with on my days off set me back. I've yet to check out either of my hunts. Next week I'll be checking out deer, then every other week I'll be checking out mtn goats. Then my hunts begin.
