Heading into the Rubies via horseback drop camp archery with two others for one week in Aug. Anyone have a good gear list they would recommend to get started with? Each hunter can have 150lbs of gear. We will want to spike out from base camp depending on where we see activity.

I'm using the Easton Outfitters Talus 8000 pack. Above I only list what I'm taking for me, but I'll also be packing food, clothes, and sleep gear for my son which is included in that weight. I'd be 10 lbs. lighter without that gear.

I'm also only carrying 3 quarts of water, as I know there will be plenty of snow to supply me with H2O on the hill.

Checkout this Easton Outfitters Talus 8000 pack. They loaned it to me to try out. Feels good so far. I'll show it off in a video clip and in my webcast.

Founder,
That looks like a pretty compact load for all the items on your gear list. Your tent and sleeping bag must be a bunch smaller than mine! haha

The list you provided looks like it covers about what I take except for when I only go for 2 days I dispense with the stove and fuel...but it depends on where you're going and it will be nice to have a warm meal with your son.

We're headed out to do some car-camping over the 4th and we've totally filled the Tahoe and all the space between the 2 quads on the trailer. My wife likes to take a bunch of crap... but this is her trip, mine is in 2 weeks to scout the Wyoming moose country and I get to take or leave what I want. ha

Best of luck to all and be safe out there!

Founder, I like your list. Well thought out. The only flaw I see is your item of "TP for 2 days". That leaves no room for error. Make it for 3-4 days to cover emergencies:)

Good list by founder.
I have one I van email if wanted.
150 pounds, holy :)$;):&&, you must be an animal.
I never carry a pack in over 60 pounds.

150lbs because we are getting packed in on horses. I'll send you a pm with my email. Looking forward to reviewing your your pack list.

We will spike out from base camp with our packs for overnighters. I hear the solar showers are a great commodity.

150 lbs, I would go with the kitchen sink or a case of beer!

Sounds like a fun trip, have a blast.

Oops, sorry I missed the pack in part.
150 lbs should be TONS!
I hope you have a great trip. Send me your email and I will send the list.
Have fun

I'm sure Mr Founder (sir) knows that his backpacking list is missing a few heavy hunting items like:

*Weapon/ammo/tools
*Butchering gear: game bags, bone saw, knife sharpener etc
*First aid/trauma kit (no little stuff like band-aids, yes blood clot stuff for really bad bleeds, yes airway, yes antihistamines) ect.
*Water purifier
*Work out a way to have trecking poles, scope tripod, camera tripod, and rifle pod all be the same single item.

Might save weight with the phone/camera/gps being one unit.

Concur on the 2-days w/o stove but I end up carrying too many powerbars instead. I love my JetBoil.

Does sphagnum moss grow where you're going? You might not need disposable paper at all...

Never had any luck with solar showers.
