Just curious if anyone thinks the new road out to the Book Cliffs has effected the deer quantity or quality. I drew out their 3 years ago, the year before they paved the road and took a 30", and haven't been back since but I have a buddy that drew a muzzleloader tag this year so I will be heading back out this year to help him out. Any info would be great.

Thanks!

It hasn't much effected the deer herd. Although there certainly are going to be more deer hit by vehicles than before. The DWR numbers, for what they're worth, show the Book Cliffs deer herd numbers up.

What the road has done has brought a huge increase in people. With it being so much more accessible than before there has been and increase in people out there nearly year round. It has been a huge increase in bear and turkey hunters in the spring, but also more general elk hunters in the fall, more lion hunters throughout the winter, and the year round shed hunters, scouting, sight seeing. Add to that the increase in energy exploration. And then there's the hippies who show up to fight the development.

There is still essentially the same deer numbers in the same places as when you had your tag, just plan to wade through more traffic out there.

Just came back today from the cliffs. Yep the workers are hard at laying road. I wont be surprised to see the paved road to
pr springs in october

I don't think it has affected it yet but it will...

One of the saddest moments in hunting for me is watching this road go in...

It used to take some effort to go out to the divide. Now a VW Bug can make it there...

It just doesn't feel right...
