Hunters

I wouldn't mind if Founder made a new forum titled Hunters. In this forum it would be strictly for guess what? Hunters. No posts of what someone paid for or what a guide did. Just the few guys left with integrity, spirit, drive, passion to hunt, and real respect for animals.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-11-14 AT 00:03AM (MST)[p]Great idea! we could have our own Forum, just for us guys who think that because we do things certain ways, everybody else who do things different than we do, aren't doing it the right way so they aren't as good as we are so we need our own little space where we can pat each other on the back! That's a brilliant idea!

I used to feel just like you do greyghost but after 50 years a DIY hunting and many States hunting seasons under my belt, i look at things a bit different now. I think i still have all that you require for membership but my idea of a "Hunter" is much more inclusive and broader than yours.

Got ya Joey. There is room for improvement, I'm not trying to take away from anyone. If I had the money and may some day to purchase hunts or tags I would certainly do so. But it would be DIY. I just could not get the same gratification from paying someone to find me am animal. I believe if there were a forum of this nature it may bring an addition of Hunter traffic to post and view post. The giant Colorado buck post below got me thinking and I was going to respond to it when I thought why dabble with the opinions and complaints about that post but try and figure our a solution to them.

I guess that, "there's the rub" with me in that statement. Lots of guys hire a guide to hunt good country together. The "guide" knows the lay of the land, maybe where he has seen good bucks in the past, and might know a few hidy holes that most don't know about or get to. Other than that, they just go hunt and take their chances like anybody else.

Then again, you got you guided, or unguided hunt, on good to fantastic, private property. Lots of bucks to pick from. These guys are either lucky to be born into it, smart enough to see a good thing early and hang on, or have enough in their wallets that with their limited time, it's the best bang for their buck so they pay the cost.

Lastly, How about the single tag holder in a great area that has 5-6 good strong expensively equipped and knowledgeably possessed relatives, plus their full entourage of supporting staff, that get together in a common goal of scouring the unit in search of the best animal on the mountain for the lucky tag holder?

3 Different groups of guys. All of them hunters.

I say this as never having hired a hunting guide but many of my friends have and i don't look down on them one bit.

GG, i see your point, i do. Some hunts are not so much hunting as buying a product. I'd be careful though, including all those who hunt their own way back East of us, we are all in this together.

Ok, I can agree there is probably three groups of hunters. I've never hired a guide either or would I unless I had to do to laws forcing me to do so. I have friends that are guides and they guide for big names. I can speculate why they guide but really don't care what there reasons are. I'm from Nevada (public land) and have family in the Midwest where 99% of the land is private. I understand the private thing and have no desire myself to participate in that environment. (Room for improvement) I guess we are getting closer to what I was after. Private land DIY hunter forum. I wish I would of thought of that in the original post.

I have hunted with guides. I have hunted DIY. I have hunted public land. I have hunted private land. I have shot animals to death and it wasn't a "hunt" at all. I have gotten varying levels of satisfaction from all of that. My next guided hunt may be much more gratifying than my greatest DIY hunt. I won't know until I go do it. My next DIY hunt may be the greatest hunt I will ever go on in my life. I won't know until I pull my boots off. I can guarantee all of you this. When I am doing it I won't be glassing across a prairie and thinking if THEY will finally let me post in the highly exclusive "hunters" section of some website.

Go hunt for yourself fellas. Hunt for the game. Hunt a lot of different ways. Don't hunt to be the judge of "hunting".

We need everybody grey! There's so few of us to begin with that if we start to divide us it'll just be u and me talkin to each other and I'm kinda boring! We need to stick together in the end, even if we go a round or two, in the end were hunters therefore were brothers! Luv ya brother!

"We're all hunters, we're all brothers" You stated my feelings correctly brother, thanks.

I've been on a few guided hunts, when required by law, and found them to be high adventure and exteremely satisfying. It's pretty hard to do a 12 day full backpack trip in the NWT for Dall sheep and not have a fantastic, high-adventure time... and be guided as required.

There is a difference between ALL hunters and it's only going to make us weaker if we try to split up the pie. Remember, the world would be a pretty boring place if everyone was just like me!

Just my 2 cents,
Zeke

Lol

Should have quoted that from Tristate.

While I can appreciate the sentiment of your suggestion GreyGhost, I'm afraid it's just not feasible. As mentioned above, there are too many differing definitions of "hunting". If you wanted a thread that was "SOLO/DIY" then that is narrow enough that it might work. Or "Family and Friends Only" where no guides are allowed. There is so much crossover as to what a Hunter is these days.

Solo/DIY/Public Land/Limited Entry/Draw
Solo/DIY/Public Land/Limited Entry/Purchaser
Solo/DIY/Public Land/General Season
Solo/DIY/Private Land/Inherited
Solo/DIY/Private Land/Friendly Permission
Solo/DIY/Private Land/Purchaser
Solo/DIY/CWMU/Draw
Solo/DIY/CWMU/Purchase

Now replace "solo" with "family only"
Then replace it with "guided"

Then you could break it down by weaponry...

Too many combinations... :) I'll let anyone call themselves a hunter that is anti-anti-hunter... The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
