Saw this photo making the rounds on Facebook this morning. You can find it on the Tines Up Facebook page. According to the posting on Facebook, it is the biggest buck to ever come off the Paunsaugunt/Alton unit. Scores 259 6/8. Lucky hunter was Jeff Richards. What a sweet buck!

Is it just a bad pic or does it look like a browtine along with a large piece of the bottom of his left beam has been blown off?

Very cool deer.

The fact that its a "Paunsagaunt/Alton" buck rather than just a "Paunsagaunt" buck taints it for me... Just sayin. Just a little.

Other than that, it's a freakin pig of a deer. Seems I remember someone talking about rumors of some giant 9x12 or something runnin around down there. As this is the largest deer ever to be taken in the area (apparently) I hope there's still a 230" 9x12 (or what ever) runnin around for someone else to shoot as well... :) :)

What is the scoop on the Alton part boys? What is the diff? I'm asking because I really don't know.

That's my cousin in the pic! My uncle shot the buck!!

The Pauns is the Pauns. Congrats to the hunter. Whether he shot it pre migration or during. A huge percentage of the bucks harvested on the Pauns LE hunt spend months and months on the Alton. No tainted issue with this buck at all for me!

I think what people mean is it was on the private property on the Alton ranch. It was not a buck that could of been killed my any Pauns tag holder.

Not the biggest ever off the Pauns. There's at least one bigger . Arther Glover killed a buck that scored 259 7/8 in 1947. Long before the days of limited entry, cwmu's and auction tags. I doubt anybody even refered to the unit as the Paunsaugunt back then.

Coyote,
That is exactly my point. The bucks on the Alton all leave, they migrate to the south. By the time that the rifle hunt for LE opens most of the Alton bucks are fair game. This buck just happened to still be on the Alton when it was shot. I just don't see how that taints it? If it wasn't for the Alton the number of big buck harvested on the LE public would be far less. Buck shot legally by a hunter on the unit, guess I don't say any reason for it to be tainted.

I think what Browning was saying was he would have rather seen the buck migrate to the public land on the Pauns and be shot by a hunter that drew the tag rather than a hunter that purchased the tag. Thats fine to have that view if you he likes but it really shouldn't taint anything about the deer.

Orange Puma camo coming to a store near you:)

"Definitely not the biggest to come off the Pauns/Alton unit!!!"

+1

A few of the southern Utah general units have produced 300 inch bucks in the past, sure the Pauns has too.

The Alton unit is a 1st class run operation, and the bucks they've killed the last few year are bigger they have ever killed. I thought the buck Wade killed was the pinnacle, but apparently not. We don't even know if this hunter drew or bought the tag, so no sense belittling it.

Wow he is a giant of a buck for sure, Doesn't make a different where he was hunted, For him to get this size, he outsmarted a lot of hunters over the years. Super buck, hope to see some pictures of him mounted. Thanks for sharing.

This is not the biggest mule to ever come off the Paunsagunt area. I know of at least 3, off the top of my head that will top it. It is a great mule deer, however, absolutely tainted in my opinion.
I'm from the ?bitter generation that will die off.?
Congratulations to the hunter!

Incredible buck, congratulations to all involved!

For those of you who can't stand to see other people enjoy stuff like hunting on Alton, why don't you focus on yourselves instead of others? If you don't like that others can enjoy things you can't, don't take away from them. Get off your butts and do what they've doe... Earned the money to enjoy a better hunting experience.

CAelknuts,
You have completely missed the point here! You assume that money is the key to a "better hunting experience." Get a grip dude! Your making way to many uniformed inferences without any facts to support your believes.
Good Day!

Please explain yourself, conch. What IS your point??

Not trying to start crap, just curious. Please explain yourself.

CWMU hunters can hunt with a rifle starting Sept 1st.This would be the main difference between the Alton CWMU and the Pauns. With that said, big bucks are hard to kill no matter where they are found. Congrats to CCO, the hunter, and guides on a magnificent animal.
