LAST EDITED ON Oct-21-14 AT 08:23AM (MST)[p]My 2 oldest kids both tagged out on the opener!
They were out of school on Thursday and Friday so we went up early to scout which paid off. We found the bigger buck on Thursday night and saw him again on Friday morning. I sent the younger kid just out of camp to scout while his older brother and I went to watch the bigger buck. He saw the buck he killed every time he went out.

We decided to all go after the bigger buck on opening morning. We hiked in above the road waiting for the road hunters to push him to us. They did and he went into the drainage where my oldest was waiting. After 2 shots, he calls me on the radio and says "I hit the big one and he is still moving, what do I do?". I got very excited and started yelling into the radio to keep shooting till he stops breathing! It only took one more shot to anchor him down. After a few seconds he got back on and said he is down! He then stood up on the ridge across from us so we could see him and started to dance. I looked at the his 2 younger brothers and noticed they started dancing the same way and before I knew it we were all dancing. I know it sounds strange but I could not stop my self. Imagine if someone saw us all doing the same dance on different ridges. That would have been a sight. That must be why we had the spot to our selves.

After dragging his buck to the road and loading it up in the truck we headed to camp took a nap and then went after the next kids buck above camp. It took us tell sundown to find him but after 1 shot he put it down and we drug it back to camp. He was very excited to get to sleep in the next day.

It was a pretty good hunt and an awesome time with the kids. Lots of shenanigans going on. They never stopped.

There are some great memories there. The dance will always stand out in your minds and probably be a big part of your campfire stories. Be sure to keep the stories going as the kids grow up fast and you want them to remember these experiences.

That's pretty sad that you spent all that money on a good camera and didn't even film the victory dance. lol Great job boys. So proud of you and the young men you are becoming. Great job Dad.

They wore out the video camera filming them selves dancing at home. I can't get them to film deer and make a manly video but they love making dancing videos! As long as they show up to hunt some deer every year it is all I can ask.

There is still hope for the littlest one. He can't wait to go film the deer on the winter range.
