To start this off, I'm posting this on my dad's account because I couldn't log into mine!
On Saturday, I got the opportunity to kill my 5th buck. I've been looking forward for hunting season for a LONG time, and couldn't wait to get out in the hills. My dad had been scouting the area we were going to hunt in, and he had not seen anything. He told my brother and I to not get our hopes up just in case we didn't see anything. That didn't matter to me; I was just excited to be hunting.
Our morning started off at 5:00. We drove up to where we would be hunting and got ready. My uncle was our "guide" so we started following him up the hill. Before we knew it, we jumped 3 decent bucks but I couldn't get a good shot. It was very promising though!
We hiked for a few more hours without any luck. We decided to start heading back to the truck, hoping we would see something on the way back. My brother ended up taking a nap under a tree and somehow my uncle, dad and I started talking about hippos, porcupines, and safari hunts. ( Don't ask). Right when the conversation started getting really weird, my uncle said that he noticed a deer in a grove of trees across from us. Unfortunately, it was a doe. But after a little bit, another doe and a buck appeared! We woke up my brother (he didn't believe that we saw a deer) and started to move closer. They went down into a little canyon and appeared on the hillside across from us! My dad and I were running to try to find a good spot to get a shot while my brother and uncle stayed behind incase I missed.
I was shaking so bad...part of it was because I was out of breath and part of it was because I had so much adrenaline. It was a 200 yard shot so I was a little nervous. But I lined up and pulled the trigger and the buck just dropped. I can't even explain the feeling that comes after you kill an animal!
It's definitely not the biggest buck at all. But being out in the mountains with my brother, dad and uncle hunting makes up for what it lacks in size. How blessed am I that I get to do this every year.
