This morning my friend and I took my son out for the opening day of his deer hunt. We went to one of our favorite glassing points and began the search. Over the first couple of hours we turned up about 40 deer but with a few small bucks. My son passed up a good 3 point and about 30 mins. later my friend came running over for the spotter as he saw 4 deer heading toward the skyline off the other side from us. They ended up making it over the top before we got a look at what they were but based on their body size we knew they were all bucks. We ran up to the top to hopefully get over to the next canyon before they bedded. It only took us a few minutes to locate the buck and my son decided that this buck was the one. He made a great 458 yard shot to put him down. He wanted something bigger than last year and he succeeded. He has a lot more patience than I did at his age.
