The bucks I have been watching in western Nevada finally started rutting on the 14th. On the 16th I saw a really nice 4x6 by the Forest Service sign west of Carson City headed toward Lake Tahoe. He was beating a tree down on the side of the highway, but I didn't have my camera with me so I don't have pictures of him. I miss hunting the rutting bucks on the extended archery in Utah.

The bucks are rutting hard in northeast California. We had a buck walk toward us yesterday, as one of his does was fairly close to us. We were right out in the open and talking to see if they'd spook. They could care less. The buck my son ended up shooting had a big group of does and one other 4x4 buck, and the last thing he cared about was the guy stalking him with a muzzleloader. Of course, that was the last mistake that buck made.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-18-14 AT 01:16AM (MST)[p]Here in Area 231 the rut in full swing is fun to be part of...I see bucks every time out I haven't seen numbers of in TEN years of hunting. So many does, even smaller bucks have a few with them. Nothing really super, I think the biggest I've seen is maybe a 30 -inch 4 pt., but a lot of mature 4x3's, 4x4's. Plus, I've found a few sheds, and seen elk.Kinda like hunting, I'll drive by a buck, jam on the brakes, get out my video gear...too late- he's either sneaking away, or on an all-out dead run! Even stopped to look at does without a buck, went to take off, when the buck blew past the front of my truck so fast, all I saw was a flash of antlers! Or stopped to look at a couple of dink forkies, when I should have looked around to see a dandy buck going over a ridge. I've been doing this for several years now, and it's actually MORE fun to me than hunting. Another thing I've done is seen a really nice buck with his does (sometimes on several occasions), and gone back to the place he was hanging out in November in April and found his sheds!Late rut, when most of the breeding has taken place and does are a bit more scarce, the bucks are so determined, you can even get pretty close to them and they don't even run off!Deer hunting...ALWAYS an adventure!

LAST EDITED ON Nov-18-14 AT 07:41AM (MST)[p]It is always fun to see the big boys, I like the last bucks look a lot. Question, how long will the rut carry on usually? If you start seeing the bucks and does separating is that a sign they are on their way out?
Thanks

Yesterday was another CRAZY, fun , day watching the rut!

Saw about 35 bucks, Most groups of does with bucks like this.
