Danny's outstanding CA muzzleloader buck!

Well, my son just had quite the encore to the great muzzleloader elk he took in Arizona in September...

This morning, he shot a great, wide buck on a late muzzleloader hunt in northeast California. It's a great buck, should be one of the biggest killed on this hunt for the year. Damn kid wanted to pass it up, and my buddy told him he's only seen 3 or 4 bigger bucks in all the years this late hunt has been offered. So, he changed his mind and shot what'll probably be the best buck he ever kills in CA.

Pictures to follow later this evening when I get them uploaded.

Dude!!!! The garden muzzleloader hunt (I.e. the only late season muzzleloader in the NE) closed on November 9th!

Hope your dates are off or for sure he did kill the biggest one!

Oh ya!! Duh me I was thinking too far NE! I do know of a couple slammers that came off the garden this year. My bad on that

Sorry guys, I'm having trouble uploading pictures. I don't know why but I had this same problem with his elk hunt pictures back in September. If someone doesn't mind, I'll email you a couple pics to post for me.

His elk was pretty damned good, and this buck won't disappoint either. It may not be the biggest buck to come from this year's Doyle hunt, but if someone gets a bigger one, they'll have a really super buck. Danny did see a buck that was a bit narrower but which would have scored higher, yesterday; but it was in Nevada so he couldn't shoot it. That buck was a 29" 5x4 with a kicker. The buck he killed this morning is over 30".

Roy, this is a recurring theme with that kid. He told me before the hunt that he was fine coming home with the tag in his pocket if we didn't find something special. They actually left this buck and his buddies were mad that he didn't want to shoot it, so he agreed to go look at it again. A friend who lives in the unit then told Danny he'd only seen 3 or 4 bigger bucks in all the years of this hunt, so Danny figured out that he'd better shoot it. Well... DUH!!!

He enjoys hunting greatly and has never been one to shoot an animal just to fill a tag. He initially passed up the bull he ended up killing in Arizona this September. I couldn't believe he walked away from that bull, but he said he didn't want to end his hunt so soon. He shot it the next day and it grossed 361". How many guys, let alone 26 year olds, pass up 360 class bulls, or 30" bucks?

He's a different kind of hunter and I'm pretty damned proud of him and how he views hunting. Next up, calling bears!

I would have passed him in heart beat for the 4x5,you boy knows what he's doing!

Wide dude is he? Great stuff. I love wide bucks......

Not near as many as there used to be. I think it is a bit easier for a younger guy, it was for me, to pass on good animals.

Also, the more good hunts a guy goes on where he can choose from different animals, the pickier he can/will get, and, if he grew up in that environment, which i'm pretty sure was the way you raised him up, he probably learned to be as he is from watching ol Dad.

I don't know how many hunts i have left in me. Back then, i thought there would be better bucks next year and for many years to come so going home empty, could still rank as a great hunt as long as i felt that i hit it hard and got to pass on good bucks along the way.

I'm rambling, sorry! I guess i'll sum it up. He's taking after his Dad. That's why! Congrats to the help and both of you!

Wow everyone must have seen that nevada buck, he is a darn nice buck would definatly score better. Killed mine today was 29 1/2 just too big for me to pass!

With those long beams that buck should score really high. The 4x5 must really be something to outscore this deer.Congrats to the hunter.

Nice buck, what did he score, I am guessing 175-180? That is a fun hunt. Took this one a few years ago up there.

I know a guy glassing the area you got this buck in right now,he's probably freezing his Tail off its been close to zero out there the last few days.

Definatley been cold went out just glassing today since i was only one that had tag headed home today know of 8 bucks that have been killed now including mine may be a few more i havent seen.

Maybe Danny's buck, don't know. I heard today from a good buddy that a Monster was brought in to Idaho Grocery, Susanville, from Doyle late hunt last couple Days. Said it was a 36" typical W/huge frame. Pic's at the store!

Different buck, Joey. I've seen pictures and it is much bigger than Danny's buck. Think Strip buck kind of big. Won't score great due to short G2s but it is a MONSTER.

OK, i thought my buddy might have been exaggerating but guess not.

Same buddy showed me a Pic of a Gal and her Huge Buck, last year, Nev, along the border there. Really a Toad, said to be 36", out and up and up typical, blew me away!

Guy i used to work with, friends for over 30 years, has Nev. Late hunt 21 coming up.

Yeah, 36" is hard to get. That's what he said though and even if a few inches less, hella tall, it was pretty, and it was HUGE! lol

Wow he is a dandy of a buck. Kid is strong willed to pass him up even once. Congrats on coming back and taking him.

I wonder if this is the 36 inch buck!i heard it can from the devils garden hunt.

Looks like it got ran over by a horse trailer. How fotunate that the antlers are in one piece.

Really, some great Bucks coming from North Eastern Calif this year!

I don't know much about it and claim only this: My buddy who is a tough to the core long time bow hunter, told me in person that he was shown, the day before, a pic of a huge buck that came from the Doyle Muzz hunt while he was at the Idaho Grocery in Susanville. He mentioned 36" and from the pic, he said he thought it was huge.

I been working going the other direction away from susanville instead of toward it or i'd have checked it out myself.

I do have to go to Susanville sometime next week to sign papers for my CPA but that's next week...

They did kill some big ones in the Garden during muzzy. I saw another picture of a huge buck for Cali that came from there this year.

Good to see the home state producing some great bucks!
Congrats, can't let that buck go, score is not everything, that buck is going to look killer on the hunters wall. Looking forward to using my points one day!

I must be missing something or the pictures are deceiving because that buck looks like he will score very well to me. The main beams look to be 28" or better, above average mass and ok point length puts him close to all time BC in my eyes. Must be the picture or my old eyes.

I don't know Danny but this is not his buck,Devils Garden is correct killed on Halloween

I'm pretty sure that giant buck pictured at Idaho Market was killed on the Bass Hill archery hunt. A couple people have sent me pictures of it, but I don't have permission to post them. Suffice it to say, this giant would be an outstanding buck for the Arizona Strip or any Colorado unit.

BTW, Danny's buck was a bit over 31" wide. I think someone was asking about the width, and that is the greatest spread of his buck.

This is a bass hill archery buck,he has been a susanville local for a few years living In town but when the rut kicked in he strayed out of town a bit on to property he could be taken on or public land.
