Very nice Buck! Are you in the south plains area, upper panhandle or west? I hunt in Hartley County and have killed and seen a lot of nice deer.
For the rest:
There are no high fence mule deer hunts in these areas. Central and east Texas have the high fence killing operations (not hunting!!) for whitetail and exotics. Hunting mule deer in Texas is the same as hunting the rest of the western states. The difference is most people either know someone that will let them hunt, hire a guide or lease the land. We don't have the public land like the western states.

I received a text and different picture of this buck. It was killed in Hale county just north of Lubbock TX in the panhandle. Was told it scores over 240 and was killed in the evening. No high fence for those that don't know this part of Texas.
This is the first season ever for mule deer in Lubbock, Castro and Hale County. Some big deer have been hitting the ground.

That is a Lubbock deer. Numbers in that area are very low and they have not had a season in a very long time. The original reports I got also said 240 but about a week later I received word that an actual scorer put some tape on him and he is going to end up around 205.

Was it true about him shooting the deer bedded behind an old ranch house with a pistol? I've only seen 4 or 5 different versions of the story on various Tx hunting forums.

I'm sitting right below a 205 as I type this, and that Texas buck blows him away. That buck is closer to 240 than he is to 205..
