I am currently looking at possibly putting in for Fillmore Oak Creek Archery Deer. I have hunted Fillmore Pahvant Unit since 2009 for deer. This year I have 7 pts for deer and could draw this tag. I am a archery nut and would like to harvest a decent velvet muley. 24" wide 4x4 in the 150-160 range would be plenty for me. I have never stepped foot on the Oaks and have read mixed reports on it. Any thoughts, advice, or info would be much appreciated.

All you have to do is look at the harvest statistics over the past few years (for archery) and that gives you an idea of what it is like. It is a very tough unit to hunt with not a huge population of deer. As with most of the LE units in the state, there are some nice bucks on the unit. It is doing fine after the fire.

I hunted it for 14 days a few years back, saw one GIANT buck and one 185 class buck and then a handful of 170ish class bucks. Missed a buck at 27 yards. Very physical hunt, and a chit ton of cows....

This unit is nothing like the pahvant. Totally diff country, steep rough rough country. Lots of cliffs and rocky country. Tough hunt even with a rifle.

Super tough unit. If that is type of buck you would be happy with I'd suggest looking at the Book Cliffs for Vernon units. Lots more deer and a much hunter friendly units. Also bring you snake boots, the rattlers out number the bucks most days.

good unit that can turn up a great buck. Its better then the Book Cliffs, Vernon and San Juan for quality imho. Now killing one is a whole other story with a bow. I think it had dang near a zero percent success rate for three years in a row with a bow. For the points it takes to draw an archery tag Id do it in a heart beat because just like hunting the Wasatch front except I wouldn't have to have all the competition.

Why is this site the worst out for browsing with
a phone or posting with a phone?

Book Cliffs would be more fun IMHO. Lots of deer, lots of bucks, and lots of opportunity to find and stalk the caliber of deer you are after... Also, the Books are so large, competition is relatively nill, and on occasion when hunting and another hunter has come by, they were respectful and left the vicinity.

The Vernon unit is similar to caliber of deer as the Books. Fewer hunters there than the Books. But the Book Cliffs beat out all units for accessibility. There's friggin roads galore out there. :) And a highway all the way to good deer country.
