Antelope Island Shed hunt

So I drew out for the West side of the Antelope Island Shed Hunt. I was aiming for the east side but wasn't lucky enough. I am asking those that have been on the west side of the island doing the shed hunt to share their past pics of sheds they have found. Like the east side being easily accessible and the west side not so much how do they have you get to the west side to shed hunt.

To have any kind of chance you will have to find a way to sneak in, gather a bunch illegally, then gps your stash. Don't foret to hide it real good so no one else finds it.

Haha. backpackin. No Thanks. I'll leave that to some other "honest" shed hunters. I plan on doing it the right way.

I didn't get in. All sold out. No big deal though, wasn't that much fun last year.

I have found more antlers on the west side than east side! They are usually older and not the biggest but I would rather find a lot of little whites than nothing!

Ps did anyone else wonder why all the shed hunting tags were sold before eight o'clock when it was suppose to open?

Make sure you lace up your boots tight and get moving. On the west side you'll earn every shed you find. The fact is the island isnt what it was 10 years ago. Youll be lucky to find anything better than average. But good luck out there!

P.s. I hope you dont get discouraged easy!

I've heard from other that you have to hike about a hour and a half just to get to the west side and start looking for sheds. I am not afraid from walking around. thanks Muley Creek

For those that didn't get drawn. There is a free shed hunting day on Antelope Island on Febuary 28th. It's the same weekend as the Hunt expo. That way the out or towners can make it.

Whatever you do. Don't post pictures or share what you find with anyone if you do good! People will come at you like a bunch of high school girls on PMS! It's a fun shed hunt but half those guys are drama queens!

Big John is full of crap! no such thing will be happening

MuleyCreek, He ain't that far wrong. There will be a pre hunt hunt, and sheds will be picked up, hidden, or carried off by birds and buffalo. No integrity is worth the skyrocketing value of the island bone.

I understand we will always have unethical low life's that believe they are more entitled to the bone then the rest of us! Thats just a given!

Ya, it seems to me there was a pretty unbelievable story regarding the sneaky birds and buffalo on the island. Apparently they are stashing sheds now a day......likely to keep something for their mice friends to get the proper nutrients they need throughout the year. I suppose I could be off slightly on the exact story but that sounds about right.

Sit tall in the saddle, hold your head up high, keep your eyes fixed to where the trail meets the sky...

BIGJOHNT, if the hunt expo is the 19-22, and the free shed day the 28th, how can they be the same day?

They wildlife board to continue to stimulate the economy in the salt area. Felt the the last day of the Expo being the 22nd the next best Saturday would be the 28th.

If you spot a shed before the opener and don't see it on the opener, keep looking around. Those buffalo kick them around all over the place. Happened to quite a few in years past. One time the buffalo kicked a bunch into a pile behind a big rock. Those buffalo are amazing animals.

You couldn't pay me enough to get involved in this form of "hunting".
Good luck to all you guys who like the "after the fact" antlers but it's not for me especially when it's connected to scandalous buffalo! LOL

LAST EDITED ON Feb-04-15 AT 02:29PM (MST)[p]Man there is a lot of unneeded drama. You know what's funny is that all I wanted is to see some pics of antlers that were picked up in the past. Thank you for all that are sharing. The shed hunt can't come soon enough.

I also got a permit for the west side. Is it really as bad as you guys are saying? I don't get discouraged easily, but damn, people.

>Only in Utardia.

I'm afraid you're right this time Mr shotgun1.
Way too much drama to find a little bone.

Just got word from a Reliable Source that the "STOCKPILING" is happening as we speak!

Same BS goes on in WY!

JUDAS!

Elkassassin-Damn those Buffalo's I guess at least they can put the antlers in nice piles. Last year in Wyoming there were boot prints in a lot of spots. It's so frustrating. I guess the buffalo migrate over there and put those in piles as well.

>Muleycreek ?? Do you want me
>to show you where it
>is in the proclamation ?

Ya that would actually be nice! Maybe we could believe a word you say if you could back it up. Just sayin

It is bad enough the buffalo kick the antlers in piles but they also wear Danners to cover their tracks.
