40" buck?

Since this buck has already shed his headgear, I'll share a picture. This is a buck I call "40"
Do his cheaters push his outside spread to 40"s?

I believe that's old A-40. My good bud has some pics of him, and he was named by one of the regulars here who knows his stuff. The "A" stands for "almost".
Hope he was a busy old boy during the rut!!!

That second going away pic is a much better pic....+1 on A-40 very close but still hard to judge. I was lucky enough to see one around 42" mounted that was killed in AZ. Back in the day by a guy named B. White....its in the book.

Those cheaters are unreal.

))))------->

I would think very close to 40" if not. Very cool buck!

LAST EDITED ON Feb-06-15 AT 10:50PM (MST)[p]He's close! Tough to tell on the first pick...but going away he looks like he might get there. He's definitely not less than 37, IMO. but he might just get to 40. Close call.

Either way, he is just an incredible deer.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-06-15 AT 11:44PM (MST)[p]I don't know why the photo quality looks so bad on the first picture, it looked good on my screen before I uploaded it.

The more I see him, the more I think 'A-40' is a perfect name for him. I think he'll come up a little short of 40. 37-38 is my guess.

"I wouldn't even say 30" Really lol must not spend much time looking at Mule Deer in general. Love the haters. Just jump on and hate. Right back at ya. Really rad buck... guy saying less than 30 is b0nkers. That rack flipped side ways comes up to the top of this bucks shoulder Mule deer(31?42 in) at the shoulders from wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mule_deer .

Do you have the sheds?

You could guess pretty close if you do. What is it 3-4 inches between antlers on the skull plate?

I don't have a clue but enjoyed the pictures. Here in Texas a 30" is a very rare animal. I've only seen 30"+ deer in pictures.

We call him "Junior". He is built a lot like another 40" buck that Yelum posted a few years back. 3-pt frame with trash, and he hangs out in exactly the same area. Gotta be his grandson! I think he is at least 40". He was still packing a week ago.

I don't know if he's 40 or not, but I did have to be reminded to close my mouth every time I looked at him.

40" ????????????

We catch a lot of crap in Texas from y'all about counting dog catchers as points and calling a 5x5 a 10 point- BUT..........

That is a great 28" buck, and nothing more. Those are kickers and not even his back forks you are measuring. To me his outside spread is about 28-29" up top and 27" on his frame, with big kickers.

Just stirring the pot!

27" frame + 7" cheaters on each side. I put his greatest outside spread at 41" s and believe me I'm am expert.;)

I think this bucks frame in close to 27" outside, with a 6" cheater on the left and a 5" on the right. He would be really close to 38" outside.

I don't want to sound mean, but the saying "Everything in Texas is bigger" Obviously doesn't include brains.

SilverEagle, I did the same thing using the distance between his ears. If that distance was 3 inches, then it came out to about 34. I've seen plenty of 35 inch bucks to know he is beyond that.

I have a 34 I am staring at right now. That buck in your pic is larger than my 34 by 7 or 8 inches.

I've got 4 mounts over 35 and he's wider than them too. Heres the picture I did the test on. I copied the space between the burrs, and then pasted them end to end. Now the cheaters don't go all the way the picture edge, but with 15 blocks roughly 3 inches long, you get 45 inches. His frame alone at the G3'S is over 35. Subtract 1 block just for the heck of it, he's still over 40.

Doesn't matter, He's still in the top 5 widest I've seen, top 2 being 39+ and 40+ when shot. That leaves him, CB40, and another 39 inch estimated buck, as the biggest I've seen. I consider myself dang lucky to have seen them.

this buck is 33" for real wide. compare A-40 with this old boy. And by the way- this guy was killed within a long rifle shot of where this big feller in this post is calling home

Which one is wider? this or the subject buck with the kickers?

aaaaaaatour1.jpg

I bet their outside spreads are pretty comparable. The inside spread of the slick buck is huge...33-34? At any rate I think I speak for many on here when I say thanx for postin all the buck pics u guys put up. I sure enjoy em!

A-40-men, DW!! I for one also really enjoy the pics of the big ole live ones posted up. I like looking that the "success" pics, but the live pics on public ground really make the old ticker pound!!

That typical 4 makes me want to shed tears of joy. What a pretty, pretty buck! Some awesome deer in this thread.

The one with kickers is wider. (Outside spread, of course)

Great thread and amazing pics and analysts . He is 40 outside spread. Tip to tip ears of 22-24 and at least 18 inches outside makes him 40. Beautiful Buck

I'll play. I've got 41. Sounds like everyone is watching him so we should have a spread in a few weeks.

You guys have done a fantastic job of convincing me that A-40 is now just 40. No almost. After reviewing the arguments for 40, you've convinced me. I think he gets there.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-11-15 AT 03:22PM (MST)[p]I'm not sure one way or the other if this buck will reach 40" outside spread. In the first picture shown by the OP, i believe that pic hardly does the Buck justice and it's easy for me to see why some of the guys said it's not even close to 40".

The newer, more recent, pic's posted though, do show what the buck is made of and i'll guess that, if it doesn't make the magic 40", it's very very close to that mark.

Nice Pics, Nice Buck, Thanks for posting!

Joey
