CO Unit 54/Unit 551

Hey all,

Have the points for 3rd season deer as a NR. Trying to decide between these two units. I've been reading/researching for the past month. Still waiting on call backs from biologists, mainly wanting to talk about migration patterns within the units. Wondering if a majority of the deer winter in their respective units, or if some of them migrate into bordering units. It appears that the units have similiar amounts of summer range/winter range (Based on mapped figures).


Anyone hunted the 3rd season in either of these units the past few years? PM me if you prefer. I would enjoy and appreciate anyone's hunt experiences or information you can share.

Just some thoughts, without early weather these,will be tough hunts. Folks put too much emphasis on 3rd season CO. Dates are too early for the rut and weather is really the key here. If it was between these units I would pick 551 due to lower pressure levels. A nice buck is available in either unit. I have hunted 551 3rd, 54 2nd. Pick ones and go have a great time. It is awesome country and put in the entire season and you will be rewarded.
