My gut tells me looks are deceiving, why would you post that pic with that question if it was just another 22"-4 year old? Just saying.

21, 22"? I see that buck at over 24" outside. I'd guess him at 25" and maybe, wouldn't surprise me at all if he's wider than that. Heck of a buck!

If Hunting and Angling Ended
There is no alternative funding system
in place to replace the potential lost
funds for conservation. If hunting and
angling end, funding for wildlife
conservation, including enforcement of
all wildlife laws, will be jeopardized.
Hunters, anglers and shooters actively
support wildlife conservation through
tangible actions such as buying licenses
and paying taxes on hunting, fishing and
shooting equipment. Why are hunters and
anglers so willing to support
conservation through their pocketbooks?
Because people place added value on ?
and are willing to pay for ? what they
can use.

First of all... I LOVE this deer. I love tall racks versus the wide variety... It's just how I am. If I had a management tag in the Henry's or Paunsy, I'd shoot this deer opening morning. That's how much I LOVE it... :)

I'd say he only has a 20" spread. And I'd say he's 6 years old. My dad's deer on his wall is 6 years old, and they have very similar looking capes/faces.

Congrats to your wife..!! Did I mention I LOVE her deer..??

LAST EDITED ON Feb-18-15 AT 08:19PM (MST)[p]Wow, it is amazing how a rack so tall makes it look narrower. I did not think that buck would be 25 wide!

Fullthrottle came close, but Bucks4 nailed it!

Henrys management tag.
I glassed a 31" 3X3 opening morning about a mile away. We drove to within about six hundred yards and then started hiking. My wife has a bad back so we were making slow progress uphill. Another group saw the same deer and quickly overtook us. When they found that we were already after the deer they offered to back off but asked if they could watch. As we got within range my wife looked at the deer, and then looked at the excited young girl who had the other tag and told her to shoot it. WOMEN!!!
The last day of the hunt was windy and very few deer were out. As we were ending the morning hunt we turned a corner and there the buck was. It was a good 100 yards, (well at least 75 yards) away when she dropped it with a perfect lung shot.
It is one of the three biggest bodied deer I have seen.

Not Gonna Argue over the Measurements!

But the Camera/Pic is out of proportion!

Your Measurements show it almost being Square!

Lay a Ruler on the Pic!

You'll see the Height Scales about 6-1/2" & the Width 7-1/2"!

That must be the 1" Difference!:D:D:D

I know!

Pics can be Deceiving!

I am going with 25in wide nice mass on high rack. Nice wife also...it is great when you can get the wife out hunting with you. Makes for fun times....

))))------->

After looking over these field pics, the first one gave a better idea of his spread from his g3 and using the zipper on the hunters sweater I figured it was about 12" on both sides plus another inch.

All the guys going narrower, plus going back and looking at that middle pic, really had me second guessing myself but i've seen it plenty before when really tall heavy bucks can look narrower than they really are.

Again, Dandy buck!

Here is what I learned a couple years ago from my experience on the Pauns---everyone's formula for estimating width on a deer (mostly by how wide people assume the ears are) don't mean squat when the buck is part deer, part tank.

You could see from the pics this was a big, mature deer. Cool buck. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome buck ! Very few bucks ever get close to 24 inches tall. I've only seen two. Dandy for sure !
