LAST EDITED ON Mar-02-15 AT 11:07AM (MST)[p]TWO days in jail for each. The rest of jail time suspended.

$3,500 fines each
$8,000 in restitution to DWR help stop poaching fund.
5 year license suspension minimum, up to 10 years per DWR. EACH

They loss money being demoted at work.

I didn't see any laughing.

Hope they learned some lessons.

Glad its over.

I'm sort of like Yellum, but think that was decent and will get their attention and hopefully a lot of others who think it's "just a deer"!

Losing hunting privileges for 5 to 10 years should make ALL hunters prick up their ears. I can't imagine having to give up my hunting passion for that long. I guess some guys just think they will never get caught. Hopefully these results will deter others.

Do you think they will really stop hunting for that long? They already broke the law when they had the privilege to hunt legally.

I agree.
It's never enough in these blatant poaching cases but I think this seems pretty equitable.
The money fine is "almost" enough but the years without hunting would really hurt.

Holyroller, although I have always been of the same school of thought as you on hunting suspensions as you are reflecting, I think that a 1-10 year suspension may be effective with some people (and it certainly cannot hurt to issue it) but anything more or a lifetime suspension IMO just won't work. They will just hunt anyways.

They also received 100 hours of community service and will write a letter of apology to the public that will be published in some form of media.

I was very impressed with the Judge. I still think the Division kind of stunk up the entire case.

I also am glad it's over!

I don't get the part of taking their License away from them!

They never had a License to take the Hyde Buck to start with!

Well!

At least they can't Earn Points I guess!

can't wait to hear what dip$##### and dumba$$ have to say.

For those that are wondering, I'm referring to tristate and butts. But not necessarily in that order.

elkassassin,

Lots of people don't follow drunk driving laws, should we give them a license to drink and drive because of that? These guys should never get to legally hunt in Utah again.

I would way rather have seen them have a minimal fine, but lose hunting privileges for life. I don't care about fines. The jail time was welcomed, even if only two days. I'm okay with it all, except them getting hunting privileges back. Should have been permanent.

What I'm Trying to say Vaniller is:

Poachers or should I say Most Poachers are gonna Poach & they could care less about rather they can purchase a License or not!

U mean they didn't have that special utah license that allows u to hunt in town at night with a light and .22?:D

I get what you're saying. But just because one won't follow the law doesn't mean we should reward them by restoring the privilege.

It's no different than any other law breaking, IMO.

I totally agree Vaniller!

It just kinda Erks me when they say they took their License away when in Reality they never had a License for any of their Poachings to start with!

I've said this for many years:

If & When the Penalties are big enough for Poaching 90% of the BS will Stop!

You'll never Stop it all!

But with modern day panty waste Judges that no more than Slap em on the Hands what do you Think is gonna keep happening?

Smitty,

I think this is great. Why don't you run over to Hyde Park and take some pics of him now that he is back. Maybe you can get that rut pick I asked for several times that no one seemed to have. I know there aren't any because no one takes pics of 240 inch rutting mule deer in city limits.

How you like that one elk? :D

And once again!

It begins!:D

Living in a small town should keep them from hunting for awhile lots of eyes will be watching them IMO. Then maybe they will think I'm smarter then the average bear keep right doing the same thing.

I have a complete apples to oranges analogy for those that think poachers stop hunting when hunting priveledges are suspended.

IF YOU were somehow framed and railroaded through the system as a poacher (I AM NOT saying this is the case with these tools) even though I don't know if this EVER happens but just WHAT IF.

NOW FOR THE QUESTION.

Would YOU stop hunting for 10 years or worse, if you were suspended by a judge or DWR?

So your hypothetical is that I was convicted of poaching, even though I was totally innocent. Now my hunting privileges have been taken away for 10 years, and you want to know if I'm just going to go out and shoot animals anyway?

No, I would not go out and shoot animals without a license during that 10 year period. But that is just me.

Thanks for answering the question Vanilla.

I would have a tough time and wish I could set a good example for my kids that you must respect the system and it's decisions, however I think I would become a poacher, it just means too much to me, the outdoor lifestyle that is.

Same would go for if there was ever laws passed that totally abolished hunting. That would be a much simpler decision for me though.

huntindad4---I would imagine when people like these two get nailed for serious offenses with all the publicity it got that they will be watched like a hawk by various citizens to the point where they probably couldn't get away with shooting a sparrow illegally! GWs need our help and cooperation if we are going to stop poaching. If they or anyone else that gets their privileges taken away continues to violate the law, they should be up on serious felony charges with no plea bargaining and some major jail time imposed. Sometimes that's the only way to get it through to some that it doesn't pay to violate the law. I would also offer the suggestion that the question you proposed would be very unlikely to happen with the documentation needed for a conviction that would take away those privileges. Your question did get me to thinking and I would probably respond like Vanilla did, but if it actually happened that could possibly change since hunting and the outdoors has been my whole life over many decades and will always be.

Interesting topic. I would think that the most dangerous man in prison, is the man who has been stripped of all hope to get out and has nothing more to lose.

Five years loss of hunting privileges would be forever to a older guy like me yet might go by quickly enough for a much younger man wanting to turn his life around.

I thought the Sentence pretty good. A little more time in the clink maybe... Do the crime, pay with time!

Thanks for the replies fellas.

Yes Topgun it is a far fetched scenario, it was just a thought that occurred to me awhile back when people were calling for a lifetime hunting rights revocation for these two.

Much as we might hope they wouldn't get away with it this isn't the crime of the century, if they moved away most probably they could hunt without being noticed after a few years. I have hunted a lot of years in Idaho for instance and never been contacted by fish and game while on the trip unless I stopped to talk to one or stopped at a checkpoint.

So I guess my point is the guy could go on a family vacation and nobody in his home town would know where he is going and what he is doing and only if he was approached and asked for a license while "hunting" would he be found out.

Sorry for drawing out the subject just to say as Sage did above, if you take it ALL away then a person has nothing to lose.

Just for that next year as soon as I see your "Dallas Cowboys WiIL WIN THE SUPER BOWL" thread I am gonna start a Hyde Park Buck thread.

Haha.

Yup!

He takes a bit of a beating over it sometimes too, but he's a pretty good sport about it.

I guess I'm confused as to what these morons got. The local newspaper said only 3 years hunting privileges revoked and 3 years probation. $3500 a piece and they split the $8000? 3 years is a "bad boy" slap on the hand punishment. It says that DWR can seek to push the hunting loss privileges to a more severe punishment. Just curious. I've heard so many things on this that I don't know what is true

Last Hyde Park Buck thread? I don't think so!

We can have another one when the Wildlife Board meets to discuss the extended hunting privilege suspension! :)

the license revocation will be for all states. They will be entered into a database and will not be able to purchase a license for any of the states. However, I don't believe they will take their small game or fishing license away but that will be determined by the hearing the division will have.

Or they will be able to poach everywhere.
