Hello ..I was luckey enough to draw this late archery tag. Seeing if any one has any experience with hunt. im thinking of foing a dyi hunt and also thinking about guided. I spoke with wildoutpro outfitters and san juan river outfitters. Does any one have any experience with these guys or other suggestions. I appreciate any help. Thanks mike

If you haven't hunted the area before go guided. I was fortunate enough to draw the 2C rifle hunt and was amazed at how open the terrain was and all of the roads. It can be a tough hunt but you do have an opportunity to harvest a great deer.

I could highly recommend Compass West Outfitters. Chris is the owner and you would want to hunt with Anthony. He lives in the 2B/2C area and knows a lot of the big buck hangouts. Chris runs a first class operation.

You better be able to fling arrows a long way. From what I understand you don't get that close and need to be able to shoot long distances. Good luck.

Call Chris at Compass West Outfitters. I hunted 2C with him last year and he knows both 2B and 2C really, really well. Actually Anthony does and you can't go wrong with them. Anthony knows where the big bucks live.

Hope you can shoot long distances. The snow makes it really hard to get close. Good luck.

yea it should be. Im looking forward to it. Sounds like it might be one of the tougher hunts. But the reward could be huge. Im leaning towards taking the full two weeks off pulling the trailer dyi type ..so I not limit too 5 or 7 days with a guide. All though it would be nice to fly up yo save the two day drive each way.. whats your plan aaron

I think I'm going to hunt 7 days or so. I'm going to let them have opener I think and then show up. It should be a fun hunt. There is nothing tough about it. You should see lots of deer. Trying to find a good one is ur challenge. Lots of small deer. One word of advice be able to shoot long distance. If u have crunchy snow getting a shot at a quality buck under 60 yards is a tall order. My first time having the tag myself but went with 2 Jr hunters 2 years ago.

Late season with weather hunt the north end of the unit, That being said deer can/will move thru the unit to other parts quick.
Hunt the border of the REZ, Hunt around the Lake. Mountain Biking/walking down the closed roads and then hunting are a good way to get away from road pressure. Any of the canyons can and will have some good bucks in them glassing them until you find one that you can hunt keeps the foot leather down.
Roads can be tough from being slop to being frozen ruts, take spare tires and fuel. I like to have a set snow tires already chained up and just change them as needed if needed.
Talk to the oil field workers they might throw ya a bone and tell you where they have seen good bucks or they might send you to a hell hole it's a roll of the dice.
IS this hunt doable with a guide Yes , BUT a guide will know spots that have produce for him over the years and those honey holes are worth the money. another flip of the coin.
Good Luck hope to see some pictures after the hunt.
