Arizona Strip Buck 2012

Posted this buck here just over a couple years ago. Thought the newer folks here might be interested.

I whacked this buck in November 2012 in AZ unit 13B.......which I drew as a resident with a grand total of 3 preference points. I've been fortunate to have drawn 2 Strip tags in 20 years. The other buck was from 13A and is bigger.

This buck was 9.5 years old. According to AZGFD....there was only one other buck that old taken on the hunt....and none older. AZGFD has a mandatory tooth submittal for successful Strip permit holders.

Anyway, he's 35.5" outside, and I took him on the 7th day of the hunt after seeing only 2 other bucks.

Good looking buck. What's he tape out to? Bout 158'ish?

Cancer doesn't discriminate...don't take your good health for granted because it can be gone in a heartbeat. Please go back and read the last line. This time really understand what it says.

If you know anything about the Strip, it is not uncommon to see only a few deer. Unless your a guide, who knows where the higher densities are. Before trail cams.....it was REALLY a deer hunt!

I knew of areas that had more deer and consequently more hunters......but I chose a lesser deer density area just to have fewer hunters.

I found a spot scouting in September that had the right combo of feed, water and was huntable by glassing. On the third day of the hunt, I found some does in that spot that were accompanied by a run-of-the-mill 28" buck. Another group had a 2.5 year old buck. I wagered that an older buck would eventually show up and take over one of those groups, so I kept checking that area. And....bingo.

Here's the buck I took in 13A which I drew as a NR in 1994 and went by myself. I saw only 4 deer in 5 days of scouting/hunting. All were bucks, this one being the best and the fourth one.

There are now more deer on the Strip than in 1994.
