Hello all
I posted on the Colorado forum but didn't get much response. My son drew a unit 44 2nd season buck tag. Is there anyone that has knowledge of this hunt, good or bad? Are there any success stories?
Thanks.

Thanks anyway foul. I wish you all the best.
I suggested he return the tag but he dosn't want to loose the money. He wants to give the hunt a try. I hate for us to go to all that time and effort if there wont be any bucks there.

Unit 44 can be a tough hunt during second season. But 2nd season hunts are always a crap shoot to begin with. If you can get some weather it can greatly improve your chances. But hunting high is ultimately your best option. A lot of the big boys will stay high as long as they can. Your welcome to PM and I'll do my best to give you some ideas.

Thanks Coloboy and JayScott
Its late tonight and I am so tired I can barley type.
Will try to PM tomorrow

It is a great unit but weather is the aboluste key here. There are good bucks in this unit and I have seen many over the years that trophy caliber. PM me and I can give you some more info on a canyon that has produced great bucks in the past.

44 can be super tough the 2nd season. Deer density during the summer until it snows and deer start migrating is fairly low. Muley bucks in Colo are infamous for being tough to find after they shed their velvet in Sept until mid Nov. In years with little snow, warm, and dry you can expect it to be tough. A lot of deer migrate into that area late in the season after snow pushes them down from the high country. They often tend to hide out in fairly deep, dark places. 44 has some dark timber on north and east facing slopes that can be tough to hunt...especially if it is warm and dry!

Let me know is junior has any success.

It seems that Colorado unit 44 2nd season isn't worth burning 7 points on. Would someone please tell me the procedure for getting his points back. Thanks to everyone that replied to this topic.
