Anyone been out yet? Got any pictures? Hows the rain helping horn growth? I will be heading out for the 24th of July weekend I hope to have some good pics and footage then. Got a North rifle tag, and would love to see or hear any stories. The anticipation is one of the funnest parts of the hunt, and would love to hear or see anything to keep the excitement growing. Thanks all

a buddy was down a few weeks ago scouting and was really discouraged with what he turned up.found only 2 bucks that potentially be shooters. It is early tho, so things should look better come July and August

Made it out over the 24th weekend. Seen several bucks a ton of elk and a bear. I don't believe I seen as many deer as I seen 15 years ago when I drew last. The overall size of some of the biggest deer was also down. I did see a few deer that I would shoot in a hurry though. Will just need a little luck come rifle season. I got some pretty good video and a few pics. Will throw some up when I figure out my new camera. Lots of bow hunters came in Friday night. Had the place to myself Thursday. Anyone else get out?

I made it out there over the Holiday. Thursday through Sunday. I was on the go the whole weekend. only stopped at night to camp. I went in Seep Ridge and drove and glassed for animals every day. Mostly seen Elk that were way down low and a few Deer that were up high. Ran in to some Buffalo, Wild Horses and Antelope.
I had never been there had no idea of how vast and desolate you really are down there. I only seen a few camps on the upper end of Sweet Water Canyon and a few right on the Ridge Road.
the deer we did see was off the Ridge Road in 10' - 15' tall buck brush.
i am looking forward to the Rifle Deer Hunt!

I spent Thursday through Saturday out there as well. Traveled from the end of Steer Ridge to the top of Tom Patterson, over by the tower.

I will post some pics a little late. Overall, other than two bucks that I saw, I was disappointed.

i started at seep ridge, went down tom paterson/mccook ridge. from there, pete canyon, copper canyon to massey junction. up through three mile canyon then down to dragon. from there up to bonanza down to southern canyon to Rainbow Kiosk. then to Kings Well road back to seep ridge. then on to indian ridge then turned onto sweet water canyon and back up to the divide road. from the divide road headed back home over seep ridge road.
total of 4 days

total 4 legged wildlife count
2 elk 1 cow, 1 bull / 7 mule deer 2 bucks, 5 doe / 1 buffalo / 3 herds of wild horses / about 30 cottontail rabbits / roughly 40 antelope.

I seen over 75 bucks in two days. More elk than I have seen in a long tome. Only two spikes though. The deer were all over from moon ridge to Tom Patterson. Most of the bucks were 3 and 4 points 18"-20". A couple of great big 2 points with eye guards 24"+. I seen a handful of next class bucks 24"+ that were 3-4 points and a couple with trash. No monsters just a couple of really nice bucks. The bear we seen was a cinnamon boar that was big and awesome, but had my daughter too nervous. My new camera has a bunch of decent video and pics. My old computer is killing me though. Problems downloading vids and pics. I will try to get pics up.

You were in a lot of good areas for the rifle hunt Soffa, but not so good for summer scouting. I am sorry that your experience was frustrating. It sounds pretty bad. My experience is that for summer scouting, just stay along the Divide Road to see deer.

I think you have done yourself a service by exploring the way you did though. You have seen a lot of country that will hold deer come late October. Don't get discouraged. You now have a hand up on many that will show up to the unit and not know where to be come opening morning. I know you will see bucks in those areas you listed come October. With a little luck, you'll find a big one.
