LAST EDITED ON Jul-26-15 AT 12:51PM (MST)[p]Hey there,
I drew a Utah Fish Lake mule deer tag and am from Colorado so havent had anytime to get over and scout or anything. I have never been in the area and was wondering if anyone might have any suggestions or general locations to begin. I am not asking for any honey holes just something general will help out. I apprecaite it!!

Fishlake along with the rest of the state is on the upswing, hopefully it will continue this trend for years to come. We use to pretty much live on this unit, it was awesome back in the day. Not so much now, since they built the "highway" going up over the top, and double the quad trails things really tanked. That being said I was down there a few weeks ago and did see a few bucks. Like anywhere else there are a few decent ones around, but it sure as hell doesn't compare to Colorado. As far as where to hunt, generally the deer are fairly scattered across the unit with few honey holes. Not saying there isn't potential for better, but a 170" type deer is a dandy for the area.

Awesome thats very helppful thank you! I am def not going to be picky with this tag and only have a few days that I will be able to go out there and hunt so any and all information is great. Thanks again for the reply fullthrottle!

Ive spent a lot of time on this unit camping and spike elk hunting but hunt deer elsewhere. Deer are there but buck to doe ratios are WAY down and big deer have no reason to ever leave the thick pines and are rarely seen. 30 years ago it was unreal however just like the rest of Utah its tough to see a 150" buck on this unit. Id start low...lower than you think is low and work up from there. If you see a nice 4 point you need to let lead fly!

"I'll see you all this coming fall in the Big Rock Candy Mountains!"

Thank you monstermuleyhunter!! I have an archery tag so I was planning on starting up higher, when you have gone camping I'm assuming its been during the summer, have you seen any deer down low at that time?

Thank you

I just got drawn for the rifle season on fishlake and I have been trying to research forums for that area and came across your thread. I was wondering how you did last year and if you had any pointers on where to go throughout the unit. My father and I are nonresidents and have never been to this area of utah and are hoping to have some luck! Anything would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
