I grew up in Richfield, Utah so I have been on the unit but its been 10 or so years. My Dad who is 60 finally drew the rifle tag with 15 points. I rented a cabin for the weekend and am taking the Kids and wheelers down Thursday. Going to take the kids fishing and to Bryce during the day, ride and look for deer morning and evening. Anybody thats been down this year, or years past, have any spots that are better than others to view deer this time of year. I wanted to go this weekend as to not be down there for the opener of the archery hunt and to be trying to view deer while others are enjoying their deer hunt. Also does anybody have any info on some horse rides up around Duck Creek Village, or Bryce for the kids.

Thanks

This time of year, spend the bulk of your time checking out the areas just south of Tropic Reservoir up on top of the plateau. There are lots of roads that branch off of the main road that takes you past tropic reservoir and you should see deer on most all of those.

It is a beautiful area and an awesome place to hunt - have a great time!

Thanks elkhunterUT, that is what I figured for this time of year just wanted to ask. Only experience with the Paunsaugunt I have is when the muzzleloader hunt was late and we were hunting way off the top down low.

Been a good year to see some big buck. You usually won't see many of the big ones unless you are willing to get up early and stay out there until it gets dark. Like others have said, they are on top. Cover all of the back road branches south of Tropic Res. Don't waste your time on Blue Fly. You might see one in there, but rarely. Congrats to your Dad.
