Well, first 4 days was a no kill for myself. Passed a decent 4 pt up higher on the atchee ridge on Sunday, total zoo up that high so I packed up and eneded up miles up Wood Canyon and saw 15 rigs and a handful of deer w 2 being 2 pts. Ended up over in Big Park area and again total chaos with atv's, side by side's vehicles every road there!! Seemed like the bit of killing I heard about was up off of Indian Ridge which was seriously PACKED!! Back home gettin my daughter back to school, SCRATCHIN MY HEAD!!!???? Any ideas, suggestions, problems, helps appreciated. I'll start w too many tags!!!

Be glad....... The bigger bucks will start showing up later on this week. When can you go back? Thurs/Friday will be best. No circus.

I agree. On my hunt the opener was crazy. But after Monday it was a whole different hunt. Lots of fun and 1/10 the people.
Good luck.

Trix, I keep hearing that, ive seen the Henry deer move over night!! The lack of experience for me is seeing all the country I hunted, and wondering where the deer come down to?? It would take a TON to fill the miles and miles of country I visited! !!

The opener sucked. It was insane crowded, but I don't think it's all due to tag numbers. I know in my party there were 10 people there for 1 tag. I think those kind of numbers are common out there. The season dates this year make it really tough for the rifle hunt unless you were wanting to hunt the roadless. They are right in the middle of migrating.

Don't give up, keep hunting. The crowds will thin, the bigger bucks will start to show up. Patience and covering country are the keys to finding a big one during the rifle hunt out there.

I was with a brother in law that had a tag on Saturday. He killed a small 3x4 after I left. Patience is the name of the game. Unfortunately he didn't have much.

Try the monument Ridge area that can be good later, also don't give up on park canyon everything from there to the border of the unit on the vernal side. Things will change from this last weekend to the next, the hunt started a few days earlier then most years and the better buck seem to move in later. Plus the warm weather will delay them by a day or two. Patience is the most important for that unit. I shot a 188" buck on that unit 4 years ago and that was on the Thursday before it ended.

I would be surprised if you see even a few guys this week. I know I am responding on Thursday, but today through Sunday will be the best 4 days of your hunt. The areas you were in are not bad. The big bucks aren't stupid, and lots of people mean fewer sightings of the big boys.

I wish you luck. I think you will find something worth putting your tag on in the next few days. Colder weather has come in, and I'd bet 75% of the tag holders already hunted all they can and you won't be bothered anymore with that.
